The Infiniti G-Series is a midsize sedan, coupe, and convertible that was first introduced in 2003 in 4-door and 2-door configurations. The convertible model, with a retracting hard top, was launched in 2009. With standard 6-cylinder power, and a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) powertrain, the newcomer from Japan was a shot across the bow of the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Lexus IS. All-wheel drive (AWD), again mirroring the competition's powertrain offering, was introduced in 2004. An all-new, second-generation model debuted in 2007. Larger and more luxurious than its predecessor, the new sport sedan was fitted with a more powerful 3.7-liter V-6 engine and even more amenities. For 2011, Infiniti has added a new entry-level G25 model, with a smaller 6-cylinder engine and a lower price point. The convertible also gets a minor facelift.
The 2011 Infiniti G-Series is offered in more than a dozen different models, including sedan, coupe, and convertible body styles: G25 Sedan, G25 Sedan Journey, G25x Sedan, G37 Sedan Journey, G37x Sedan, G37 Sedan Sport Appearance Edition, G37 Sedan Sport, G37x Sedan Sport Appearance Edition, G37 Sedan Limited Edition, G37x Sedan Limited Edition, G37 coupe, G37 coupe Journey, G37x coupe, G37 coupe Sport, G37 coupe IPL, G37 Convertible, G37 Convertible Sport, and G37 Convertible Limited Edition. Even in base trim, the G-Series models are well equipped with full power accessories, leather upholstery, and power front seats. Upgraded trim levels include dual-zone climate control, navigation system, 10-speaker Bose audio upgrade, and more. The Sport models are fitted with larger wheels, upgraded suspension, bigger brakes, and other performance equipment.
The 2011 Infiniti G-Series is available with two different engines. The new G25 models are fitted with a 2.5-liter V-6 engine rated at 218 horsepower. A 7-speed automatic transmission is standard with this powerplant. The G37 models are offered with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine rated at 328 horsepower. A 7-speed automatic transmission is standard, but a 6-speed manual is standard on "6MT" models. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with AWD models designated with an "x" in their nomenclature. The AWD system is designed to improve traction in inclement weather, not off road, Infiniti says. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Infiniti G-Series between 18 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, depending on engine and transmission.
The 2011 Infiniti G25 Sedan starts at a base price of around $32,500, and the model range tops out with the G37 Limited Edition Convertible, which starts at around $58,500.
