The G35 sedan is a nearly all-new vehicle for the 2007 model year. The G35 coupe carries over from the 2006 version, but it, too will be extensively revised and updated for 2008.
Infiniti's G-Series vehicles come in two very distinct versions-a 4-door sedan that features relatively sporty dynamics, and a 2-door coupe with very sporty dynamics. Such dynamic capabilities come from the fact that both cars are based on the rear-wheel-drive platform that underpins the Nissan 350Z sports car. For 2007, the sleekly styled G35 coupe has a 293-hp V-6 engine, 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission, seating for 4, and a standard 6-disc CD changer with an optional 225-watt Bose system. The big news for 2007, however, is the sedan.
The 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan marks the launch of the second generation of the car, and in addition to a new body and new interior design, it features a new fourth-generation V-6 engine with 306 hp. The engine can be shifted via magnesium paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Also available is a 4-wheel "active" steering system that enhances the car's already nimble handling characteristics.
The new exterior is more aerodynamic, has what Infiniti calls a "wave-like" hood, has a more dramatic front grille and headlamp design, features wider wheel flares and a sleeker roofline, with a lip spoiler integrated into the trunk lid. The interior styling theme is warmer with more organic shapes and textures, yet with aluminum trim and violet lighting for the instrument panel. A 7-inch color monitor is part of the standard equipment. Options include navigation with XM real-time traffic, a 9.5-gigabite music hard drive, a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, active cruise control that maintains a pre-set distance from the vehicle ahead, and a new Studio on Wheels audio system by Bose.
The Infiniti G35 competes in the Compact Premium Conventional segment, which consists of 15 models. Buyers in this segment look for performance, exterior styling, and quality, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Avoider StudySM and the Escaped Shopper Study.SM
