Overview

The FX35 and FX50 are Infiniti's midsize luxury crossover SUV entries, the main difference between them being that the FX50 features a V-8 engine and several other upgrades. They're stablemates of the Nissan Murano, and share a platform with the Infiniti G37 sedan. With only a few minor changes, the 2011 Infiniti FX models carry over from the previous year.

The 2011 Infiniti FX35 is offered in one trim level, with numerous option packages and a few stand-alone options. Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, automatic Xenon headlights, keyless entry and ignition, a full menu of power accessories including the liftgate, automatic dual-zone climate control, and leather upholstery, plus an 11-speaker Bose surround-sound system. The Premium, Navigation, Technology, and Deluxe Touring packages offer many enhancements. The FX50 steps up to 20-inch wheels, an upgraded climate control system, and a cargo cover. With rear seats folded, total cargo space is 62 cubic feet, according to the manufacturer. Properly equipped, the FX50 can tow up to 3500 pounds, Infiniti says.

The standard powertrain in the 2011 Infiniti FX35 is a 303-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a 7-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard and all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional. EPA fuel-economy estimates for the RWD model are 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The FX50 is available only with AWD, and employs a 390-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 369 lb.-ft. of torque and delivers 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Infiniti FX include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, and a rearview camera. Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Brake Assist, rear parking sensors, and a lane-departure warning system are optional. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2011 FX highest-possible "Good" ratings in frontal-offset, rear-impact, and side-impact crash tests.

Starting MSRP for the 2011 Infiniti FX35 was around $42,600; base MSRP for the 2011 FX50 was $57,600.
