The Competition
The Midsize Premium CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) segment is aimed squarely at buyers who want the utility of a sport utility vehicle, but crave the luxury amenities and supple ride quality afforded by luxury sedans. Recently, the segment has seen a surge of new buyers as many of the crossovers in this segment offer better fuel economy than their full-frame truck and SUV cousins.

According to the J.D. Power and Associates Sales Report,SM the Lexus RX Series (108,775 sales in calendar year 2005) leads this segment. It is followed by the Acura MDX (57,948) and BMW X5 (37,598). The Infiniti FX-Series found 26,786 buyers last year, ranking it sixth on the sales list. Other volume models include the Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and Cadillac SRX.
