Overview

What Changed for 2008:

  • The Infinti EX35 is an all-new model for 2008
Overview
The all-new 2008 Infiniti EX35 is a slightly smaller sibling to Infiniti's other crossover SUV, the Infiniti FX. Continuing the "non-truck" theme, the EX35 offers sleek, stylish and bold styling over Nissan's familiar FM-platform shared with the Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G35. Competing against the BMW X3, Acura RDX and Land Rover LR2, the compact EX35 offers a 6-cylinder powertrain, a choice of drivelines, and an array of late-model technology.

Model Lineup
The 2008 Infiniti EX lineup consists of four models: EX35 RWD, EX35 AWD, EX35 RWD Journey and EX35 AWD Journey. All share the same V-6 powertrain; the primary differences are found in the drivetrain and standard equipment levels.

The EX35 RWD is rear-wheel drive (RWD), and available only with a cloth interior. The EX35 AWD adds all-wheel drive (AWD), but is still a cloth-only interior. The two upgraded Journey models add leather-appointed seating surfaces, power slide/tilt moonroof, power folding second row seating, auto-dimming inside mirror, HomeLink universal transceiver, front and rear sonar system, and auto headlamp control. Seventeen-inch wheels are standard on all models.

Seven optional packages are offered. The Premium package adds an 11-speaker Bose premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, Bluetooth hands-free phone system, and more. The Luxe Elite package includes upgraded leather accents, 18-inch wheels and Xenon headlamps. The Wood Trim package adds real maple trim to the console and doors. The Navigation package adds a hard drive-based navigation system with 9.3-gigabyte Music Box hard drive. The Technology package includes the All Around Monitor (AVM), Lane Departure Prevention System (LDP), and Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC). Lastly, the Luxe Style package adds 18-inch wheels, Xenon headlamps and an adaptive front lighting system (AFS).

All 2008 Infiniti models are offered with a 4-year/60,000-mile basic coverage warranty, and 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain coverage. Infiniti Roadside Assistance is standard during the first four years of ownership.

Powertrain
Standard on the 2008 Infiniti EX35 is the fourth-generation, all-aluminum VQ35HR 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Shared with the Infiniti G35 sedan, it is rated at 297 hp with 253 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transmission with a manual shift mode and Downshift Rev Matching (DRM) is standard on all EX models. As of this writing, EPA fuel economy estimates have not been released. RWD is standard, with the AWD models boasting Infiniti's ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) system.

The front suspension of the EX35 is of an independent design, featuring double wishbones with high-performance dual-flow shock absorbers. The independent rear suspension is multi-link, likewise equipped with high-performance dual-flow shock absorbers. Aluminum alloy has been used extensively throughout the suspension to save weight, improve ride quality, and increase responsiveness, says Nissan. Front and rear brakes are ventilated discs. A 4-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) is standard.

Safety
In addition to advanced Zone Body Construction with front and rear crumple zones, Infiniti has equipped the 2008 EX35 with six standard air bags, and several active safety features. Infiniti's Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) offers dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant sensors and side-impact supplemental air bags for both driver and passenger. Front- and rear-seat passengers are protected by a roof-mounted curtain side-impact and rollover supplemental air bag system.

A tire-pressure-monitoring system (TPMS) is standard on all 2008 EX models. The EX35 also features Infiniti's Lane Departure Prevention System (LDP). The system uses a small camera and microprocessor to watch the road lines and assist the driver in maintaining position within the lane. The standard ABS is fitted with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA). All three systems are designed to help bring the EX35 to a safe and controlled stop under adverse conditions. Infiniti's traction control system (TCS) and vehicle dynamic control (VDC) are both standard on the new EX35.

To simplify infant and child seat installation, the Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) system is built into the rear outboard seating positions on all EX models. The 2008 Infiniti EX35 has not been crash tested by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Technology
Infiniti's Around View Monitor (AVM) makes its North American debut on the 2008 Infiniti EX35. The system employs four small cameras to give the driver a "top-down view" outside the vehicle to assist during parking maneuvers. "Scratch Shield," a durable paint technology designed to maintain reflectivity and gloss, is also making its debut in this marketplace. Through a process of combining conventional clearcoat paint with a special highly elastic resin, Infiniti has developed a paint finish that is able to self-repair fine scratches over time, the maker says.

Infiniti Intelligent Key is standard on the EX35, with Bluetooth hand-free phone system, XM satellite radio, Intelligent Cruise Control, and RearView Monitor optional. Also optional is the Bose premium audio system with Burr-Brown 24-bit DAC. This 11-speaker system features an in-dash, 6-disc CD changer; iPod connectivity; and an available 9.3GB Music Box hard drive for music storage and playback.
