The Hyundai Tucson is a compact crossover sport utility vehicle which has been in production since 2004. The Tucson is now in its second-generation, last completely redesigned for the 2010 model year. The 2011 model year welcomes a new entry-level trim, with a smaller 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine.
Hyundai's Tucson is offered in three different trim levels. The new GL model is fitted with a 2.0-liter engine, cloth upholstery, full power accessories, tilt steering wheel, keyless entry, air conditioning, trip computer, six-speaker audio system, and 17-inch steel wheels. The GLS model is upgraded with a 2.4-liter engine, cruise control, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, roof rails, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, Bluetooth phone connectivity, 17-inch alloy wheels, among other equipment. The range-topping Limited trim adds features such as leather upholstery, automatic headlights, upgraded suspension, power-adjustable driver seat, dual-zone climate control, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Under the hood of the five-passenger Tucson is a standard 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine rated at 165 horsepower and mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard. Upgraded models are fitted with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine rated at 176 horsepower.
A six-speed automatic is standard, and consumers are offered a choice between front- and all-wheel drive. The EPA rates the 2011 Hyundai Tucson fuel economy between 20 mpg city, and 31 mpg highway, depending on driveline.
The 2011 Hyundai Tucson GL starts with a base price of about $19,500 and tops out with the Limited model, which starts around $25,000.
