What's New for 2013:

  • Hyundai makes no changes to the 2013 Azera, which debuted as a redesigned model late in the 2012 model year

Exterior Features
The 2013 Hyundai Azera is a full-size 5-passenger sedan offered in a single level of specification. Standard equipment includes power heated side mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, automatic headlights, fog lights, LED taillights, and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior Features
Inside, the 2013 Azera offers leather seats with 10-way power adjustment for the driver and 8-way power adjustment for the front passenger, heated front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, chilled glove box, power windows, power door locks, keyless entry with push-button ignition, cruise control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, trip computer, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a universal garage door opener.

The standard audio system includes HD Radio, satellite radio with 3 free months of service, auxiliary audio input jack, USB port, and an iPod interface. A voice-recognition navigation system with a 7-inch touch screen is also standard, and it includes a reversing camera, Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, and a 90-day subscription to Blue Link telematics service.

Blue Link offers a number of cutting-edge technologies to Azera buyers. For instance, Location Sharing allows your Facebook friends to see where you are, and allows you to see where your Hyundai-driving friends are. Blue Link can translate voice messages into text messages, and owners can lock, unlock, or even start the car remotely using a smartphone app. Turn-by-turn navigation is also available, along with real-time traffic and weather, and point-of-interest location search. Owners can set geo-fenced boundaries and speed limits with e-mail notification when those settings are exceeded by a driver, and the system can be used to help law enforcement locate the Azera if it's stolen.

Optional Features
Hyundai offers a single option for the 2013 Azera. The Technology package includes xenon high-intensity discharge headlights, LED running lights, 19-inch aluminum wheels, and rear park-assist sensors. Ventilated front seats, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, ambient cabin lighting, premium 550-watt surround-sound audio system, and a panoramic sunroof are also included with this option package, along with a driver seat thigh extension, power rear window sunshade, manual rear side window sunshades, and memory settings for the driver.

Under the Hood
The Hyundai Azera is equipped with a direct-injection, 3.3-liter V-6 engine generating 293 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic manual control is also standard, delivering the power to the Azera's front wheels. The Azera also includes an Active Eco mode that modifies throttle and transmission behavior to improve fuel economy.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Hyundai Azera are 20/30/24 mpg (city/highway/combined).

The 2013 Azera is equipped with 9 standard air bags, traction and stability control system, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist. Hyundai claims that the Azera's "impact-reducing" front-seat design eliminates the need for active headrests and provides a 17% improvement in neck and back injuries, compared to the previous-generation Azera.

The standard Blue Link telematics system includes a free 90-day subscription to service. Several of Blue Link's services are safety related, including SOS Emergency Assistance, which allows the Azera's occupants to contact help and provides the car's exact location to make it easier for rescue personnel to find the vehicle and administer aid.

As this model overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the 2013 Azera. However, the Institute did name the 2012 Azera a "Top Safety Pick."
