Exterior Features
The Hyundai Accent is a sub-compact car in 4-door sedan or hatchback design that differs considerably from previous model years. The 2012 Accent features a longer wheelbase, among other changes. Three trims are available: the base GLS sedan, the GS hatchback, and the SE hatchback. The sedan has 14-inch wheels; the hatchbacks upgrade to 16-inch wheels, keyless entry, and body-color mirrors and door handles.

Interior Features
The GLS includes power door locks and 4 speakers, to which a more complete sound system may be added. Manual transmission is standard; automatic transmission is optional and includes the Comfort package of options (air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, and a sound system that includes satellite radio and a CD player). The Premium option package is also available with automatic transmission and includes 16-inch wheels, upgraded upholstery, interior trim, audio controls, and Bluetooth capability. The Comfort package also offers manual transmission. The GS hatchback incorporates the Comfort package; the SE adds the Premium package, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, fog lights, rear spoiler, and alloy wheels. The GLS sedan offers 13.7 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk. The hatchbacks provide 21.2 cubic feet with the rear seats up, and 47.5 cubic feet with rear seats down.

Optional Features
Two option packages are available on the 2012 Hyundai Accent--Comfort and Premium--and offer a variety of comfort, convenience and technology features. Also, hatchback models offer a choice of manual or automatic transmission.

Under the Hood
The Accent's new 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine employs a direct-injection system and delivers 138 horsepower--a 25% increase from the previous model. Both the manual and automatic transmissions have 6 speeds; the automatic offers an Eco mode to improve fuel efficiency. All Accent models have front-wheel drive.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Hyundai Accent are:
- Accent with manual transmission: 30/40/34 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Accent with automatic transmission: 30/40/33 mpg

Safety
Standard safety features on the Hyundai Accent include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, traction control, active front head restraints, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags.
