Introduction
The 2014 Honda Odyssey is a minivan capable of seating up to 8 passengers. It competes against the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, Nissan Quest, and Toyota Sienna.

Models and Features
Honda sells the 2014 Odyssey in LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Touring Elite trim levels. Everything a minivan buyer might really need is included with the Odyssey LX.

The Odyssey EX adds aluminum wheels, triple-zone automatic climate control, Smart Entry keyless access with push-button ignition, universal garage door opener, power-sliding side doors, wiper-linked headlights, and heated exterior mirrors. The EX is also equipped with an upgraded stereo system featuring HondaLink services and a touch-screen display, LaneWatch right-side blind-spot information display, 10-way power driver's seat, manual sunshades for the second row of seats, second-row center seat, and a front center console that can be removed from the vehicle.

Choose the Odyssey EX-L for leather, heated front seats, power tailgate, power sunroof, auto-dimming rearview mirror, satellite radio, and a cool box located at the bottom of the dashboard. For 2014, the EX-L is equipped with a lane-departure warning system and a forward-collision warning system.

The 2014 Odyssey Touring gains larger 18-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, a navigation system with a music hard drive and a multi-angle reversing camera, rear-seat entertainment system with a 115-volt power outlet, and front and rear park-assist sensors. This version also includes manual sunshades for the third-row seat, two-position memory for the driver's settings, LED turn signal indicators on the side mirror housings, and more.

A Touring Elite represents the top-of-the-line Odyssey. It comes with a premium Ultrawide rear-seat entertainment system with HDMI jacks, a 5.1 Neural surround-sound audio system with HD Radio, traditional blind-spot information system, and HID headlights. This version is also equipped with a new HondaVAC, an onboard vacuum that can stretch to reach any part of the Odyssey's interior.

Options and Packages
Generally, options for Honda models are installed by the dealership. The exception is the Odyssey EX-L, which is offered with a choice between a factory-installed rear-seat entertainment system with a rear-seat 115-volt power outlet, and a navigation system with a multi-angle reversing camera and an upgraded stereo system with a 16-GB music hard drive.

Highlights from the list of dealer-installed items include roof-rack crossbars and attachments for a variety of athletic pursuits, trailering equipment, roof-mounted cargo boxes, interior cargo management solutions, interior and exterior cosmetic protection features, fog lights, wheel locks, reversing sensors, remote engine starting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, interior lighting, a first aid kit, and more. You can even get a tent that attaches to the rear of the van for camping.

Under the Hood
A 3.5-liter V-6 engine is standard for all 2014 Odysseys, rated to produce 248 horsepower and tow up to 3,500 pounds. The engine is also equipped with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology, which allows the V-6 to operate on fewer cylinders under low-load driving conditions in order to conserve fuel.

Last year, the Odyssey LX, EX, and EX-L had a 5-speed automatic transmission, while Touring and Touring Elite versions had a 6-speed automatic and slightly better fuel-economy ratings. For 2014, all Odyssey trim levels are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which powers the minivan's front wheels.

Fuel Economy
With the addition of the 6-speed automatic to all versions of the Odyssey, the van is rated to get 19 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg in combined driving.

Safety Ratings and Technology
Honda has made an important upgrade to the 2014 Odyssey's underlying structure. This year, the van has a next-generation version of Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE), which is designed to make the Odyssey safer in a wider variety of collisions. This next-generation ACE body structure is also expected to help the Odyssey perform better in crash tests. However, as this overview is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has performed those tests.

Additionally, new safety equipment is added to most 2014 Odyssey trim levels. The base LX version gains Bluetooth connectivity, SMS text-messaging capability, and an expanded-view driver's side mirror that helps the driver to see what's in the van's left-side blind spot. Choose the Odyssey EX and you'll get wiper-linked headlights and a LaneWatch display that uses cameras to show what is in the van's right-side blind spot. The EX-L trim level adds a lane-departure warning system and a forward-collision warning system. Additionally, all versions equipped with navigation receive a new multi-angle reversing camera.
