The Honda Element is a compact crossover SUV that was first introduced in 2003. It shares vehicle platforms (also known as vehicle architecture) and major mechanicals with the Honda Civic and Honda CR-V. For 2011, the Element soldiers ahead on its first-generation platform, having received only slight changes over the years since it was first announced nearly a decade ago. The 2011 model year is the final year for the Element, as Honda has announced the model will be discontinued at the end of the year. For 2011, the manual transmission and optional navigation system have been dropped, as has the range-topping SC trim level, simplifying the lineup.
The 2011 Honda Element is offered in two different models. The Element LX comes with standard cloth upholstery, air conditioning, full power accessories, keyless entry, tilt steering wheel, folding rear seating, 4-speaker audio system, 16-inch steel wheels, and more. The upgraded Element EX model adds steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, a center console and cooler for storage and keeping beverages cold, 7-speaker audio system with satellite radio and auxiliary input, 16-inch alloy wheels, and other amenities. Honda also offers a Dog Friendly package with a pet bed, rear kennel, dog ramp, all-season floor mats, water bowl resistant to spilling, waste bag dispenser, and an electric fan, all designed to make life easier for pet lovers.
The sole powerplant offering in the 2011 Honda Element is a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine. It is rated at 166 horsepower. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard, sending power to the front wheels in 2WD models, and to all wheels in 4WD trim. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Honda Element between 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, depending on the powertrain.
The 2011 Honda Element 2WD LX starts at a base price of around $21,000 and tops out with the 4WD EX model, which is priced around $24,500.
