Introduction
The 2014 Honda Crosstour is a midsize, 5-passenger crossover SUV based on the previous-generation Honda Accord platform. The Crosstour made its d•but for the 2010 model year, and a second generation, with a more powerful engine and restyled exterior and interior, came out for the 2013 model year. The 2014 Honda Crosstour carries over from the previous year with no changes. The Crosstour is available in two trim levels: EX and EX-L. Two engines are available, and the V-6 engine offers the option of 4-wheel drive (4WD).

Models and Features
The 2014 Honda Crosstour is available in five metallic colors: light blue, gunmetal grey, dark red, dark brown, and silver. White and black pearl are also available. Standard equipment for the Crosstour EX includes automatic headlights; fog lights; power heated exterior mirrors with an expanded-view driver's side mirror; dark-tinted rear privacy glass; rear window wiper and washer; and 17-in. aluminum wheels. The interior features cloth upholstery; air conditioning; power door locks with remote keyless entry; power windows with automatic operation for the front glass; 10-way power driver seat; tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel; and cruise control. A power sunroof is also standard, along with an auto-dimming rearview mirror, outside temperature indicator, sliding center console armrest, and a rearview camera system with the display embedded into the rearview mirror. The Crosstour EX also includes Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming and a 360-watt audio system with a CD changer, USB port, auxiliary audio input jack, and an iPod connection.

The Crosstour EX-L adds leather-trimmed interior; dual-zone automatic climate control with air filtration system; 8-in. WVGA screen; multi-angle rearview camera; memory-linked side mirrors with reverse gear tilt-down; leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; upgraded seat adjustability; heated front seats; premium 7-speaker audio system; audio touch screen; Pandora compatibility; Bluetooth streaming audio; and satellite radio. A navigation system is optional on the EX-L version, which includes an upgraded multi-view reversing camera with guidance lines. Real Time 4WD is optional for the EX-L V-6. The larger engine also includes a universal garage door opener.

The Crosstour's cargo bay includes an under-floor storage area and a reversible cargo floor, which makes it easier to haul messy items without soiling the carpet. With the rear seat in use, the Crosstour can carry 25.7 cu. ft. of cargo. With rear seats folded, the Crosstour offers 51.3 cu. ft. of space.

Options and Packages
A navigation system is optional on the Crosstour EX-L, which includes an upgraded multi-view reversing camera with guidance lines. Real Time 4WD is optional for the Crosstour EX-L V-6. Optional dealer-installed accessories include wheel locks,; 18-in. chrome-look alloy wheels; snowboard attachment; surfboard attachment; kayak attachment; ski attachment; roof box (two sizes available); roof-mounted bicycle attachment; trailer hitch; trailer hitch balls; roof rack; body side molding; rear bumper appliqu•; door edge film; rear bumper protector; door visors; moonroof visor; nose mask; hood air deflector; and splashguards.

Under the Hood
The 2014 Honda Crosstour's standard powertrain is a 192-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 162 lb. ft. of torque, linked to a 5-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic control that delivers power to the front wheels. Introduced last year, the optional 3.5-liter V-6 engine includes variable cylinder management (VCM), which allows the engine to operate on 3 of its 6 cylinders under low-load conditions. The V-6 delivers 278 horsepower and 252 lb.-ft. of torque and works with a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel. A 4WD system is optional with the V-6 engine.

Fuel Economy
The EPA says the 2014 Honda Crosstour achieves the following fuel-economy figures:
  • Crosstour 4-cylinder: 22/31/25 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Crosstour V-6 2WD: 20/30/23
  • Crosstour V-6 4WD: 19/28/22

Safety Ratings and Technology
Honda employs its Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure in the Crosstour's design. The 2014 Honda Crosstour includes 6 air bags, traction control, stability control, 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, reversing camera, and an expanded-view driver side rearview mirror. A blind-spot camera is standard on the Crosstour EX V-6, while the Crosstour EX-L adds a forward-collision warning system, and a lane-departure warning system. Models with a navigation system include a multi-view reversing camera with guidance lines.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2014 Honda Crosstour 4 stars (out of a possible 5) for rollover protection, but has not announced the results of any other tests on the vehicle. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the 2014 Honda Crosstour its highest rating, "Good," for head restraints and seats, roof strength, side protection, and moderate front overlap protection.
