While the 2008 HUMMER
H2 does not feature an all-new design on the outside, the 2008 model does offer improvements inside and under the hood. Gone is the military-look interior, replaced by grained leather and soft-look and -feel plastic. Optional full third-row seating is also available. The spare tire has been moved from the cargo floor to an outside location, freeing up interior space. The old 6.0-liter V-8 engine is replaced with a much more powerful 6.2-liter Vortec V-8 with sequential fuel injection coupeed with a new 6-speed automatic transmission.Model Lineup
The 2008 HUMMER H2 comes in two trim levels-Adventure and Luxury-both with full-time 4-wheel drive (4WD). Standard equipment includes a 32-gallon fuel tank; seating for 5; auxiliary rear heating/cooling system; remote starter; leather-appointed seats with 8-way power adjustment for front passengers; heated front and rear seats; leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls; auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass and outside temperature display; power-folding, heated side-view mirrors with curb-assist feature; and a bumper-mounted rear tire carrier with spare tire cap.
Options on the 2008 HUMMER H2 include a rear-vision camera system; rear-screen overhead DVD entertainment system; self-leveling rear air suspension with onboard air compressors; full third-row seating for 2 passengers; brush grille guard (straight or wraparound); chrome appearance package (chrome hood handles and latches, and bright door sill plates); first aid and tool kit; sunroof with express open and close; 17-inch polished aluminum wheels; heated window washer fluid system; universal remote; and carpeted floor mats.Powertrain
Power for the full-time 4WD 2008 HUMMER H2 comes from an all-new, Vortec 6.2-liter, 16-valve V-8 engine with 393 hp at 5700 rpm and 415 lb.-ft. of torque at 4300 rpm. With power transferred through a 6-speed automatic transmission (replacing the 2007 model's 4-speed automatic), the H2 boasts an 8200-pound towing capacity and 39.7:1 crawl ratio. The H2's off-road statistics include 60-percent grade and 40-percent side-slope capabilities, 24-inch at 5 mph water fording depth, and 16-inch vertical scaling height, according to HUMMER. The 2008 HUMMER H2's comprehensive standard security features include OnStar with 1-year Directions and Connections package; dual front air bags; head curtain side air bags with rollover-sensing system; remote keyless entry with panic button; content alarm theft-deterrent system; theft-deterrent vehicle security system; theft-deterrent system for the RDS radio; electronic stability-enhancement system; safety belt pre-tensioners (front row seats); traction control; Panic Brake Assist; rear door child security locks; Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) child-seat anchors; daytime running lamps; and a tire-pressure-monitoring system.
The 2008 HUMMER H2 SUT has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA
) for front- or side-impact crash protection, or for rollover tests; neither was the 2007 model.Technology
The 2008 HUMMER H2 features a rear-screen overhead DVD entertainment system with 8-inch screen. A touch-screen DVD navigation system and single-disc CD/MP3/DVD player with auxiliary audio input jacks and full Bose surround system, as well as three months of XM satellite radio, are standard. Other features include battery rundown protection, traction control, tire-pressure monitoring, Panic Brake Assist, and rear-vision camera. Optional self-leveling rear air suspension with onboard air compressors provides off-road enthusiasts with HUMMER's best rear suspension technology, the maker says.
