A new Glacier Blue Limited Edition model is added for 2007 with a host of extra luxury features. A new rear-vision camera system (standard on Limited models) is now available on all 2007 models. For 2008, the H2 is slated to receive more power and better fuel efficiency, plus a refined interior.
The HUMMER H2 invaded the posh and largely urbanized sport utility vehicle (SUV) market in 2002 as a more civilian version of its H1 predecessor renowned for its military underpinnings. Although built on the same heavy-duty full-size truck platform as the Chevrolet Suburban 2500 and incorporating many similar creature comforts, the stalwart H2 retains the look and performance of a ready-for-action truck. It's an SUV with a crew cut. Numerous inherent features give the H2 an off-road prowess unparalleled by most competitors. For instance, short overhangs front and rear permit radical approach and departure angles for the most demanding off-road conditions. HUMMER touts the H2 for its ability to traverse streams 20 inches deep and scale 16-inch obstacles. Compared to the H1, which has ceased production, the H2 is more than 5 inches narrower and can seat up to six rather than four.
A new Glacier Blue Limited Edition joins the existing Victory Red Limited Edition for 2007. Both models sport added standard luxuries like a rear-vision camera system, a heated windshield wiper system, carbon fiber interior accents, a rear-seat entertainment system with dual headrest-mounted viewing screens, and individual DVD players and wireless headphones.
Powering the H2 is a Vortec 6.0-liter V-8 that delivers 325 hp and 365 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a heavy-duty 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission. Standard suspension consists of an independent front torsion bar and 5-link coil spring rear suspension, but a self-leveling rear air-spring suspension system is also available. A sophisticated Bosch anti-lock braking and traction control system enhances vehicle control on slippery surfaces and in sandy conditions. Other standard safety features include front air bags and the OnStar safety and security system. The H2 comes with a 4-year or 50,000-mile warranty.
The HUMMER H2 competes in the Large Premium Utility segment, which consists of 13 models. Buyers in this segment look for exterior styling, performance, and comfort, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Avoider StudySM and the Escaped Shopper Study.SM
