The 2015 GMC Terrain is a 5-passenger crossover SUV sized between the traditional compact and midsize classes. It competes against a range of models, including but not limited to, the Ford Edge and Escape, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Kia Sorento, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester and Outback, Toyota RAV4, and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Models and Features
Buyers of the 2015 GMC Terrain may select from SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1, SLT-2, and Denali trim levels. Choose the Terrain SLE-2 for its IntelliLink connectivity, automatic climate control, premium sound system, 8-way power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and luggage rails.

Alternatively, select the Terrain SLT-1 for leather seats, heated front seats, and remote engine starting. This version can be upgraded with SLT-2 trim, providing memory for the driver's settings, a lane-departure warning system, forward-collision alert system, rear park-assist sensors, universal garage door opener, power rear liftgate, and a power sunroof. The SLT-2 also has extra chrome trim and 18-in. aluminum wheels.

Residing at the top of the Terrain lineup, the Denali features special exterior design embellishments, unique wheel designs, revised suspension, blind-spot warning system, and a rear cross-traffic alert system. Inside, an 8-way power front passenger's seat is standard, along with a wood-and-leather steering wheel and upgraded interior materials.

Under the Hood
Terrain buyers choose between a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine or a 3.6-liter V-6. Standard in all versions of the crossover SUV, the 4-cylinder engine makes 182 horsepower while the V-6 generates 301 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard for all 2015 Terrains, delivering power to the front wheels. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is optional.

Fuel Economy
The most fuel-efficient version of the 2015 Terrain is the front-drive model with the 4-cylinder engine. According to the EPA, it is rated get 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. If you require AWD, the ratings drop to 20 mpg city/29 mpg highway.

Naturally, the more powerful V-6 is less fuel-efficient. With front-wheel drive, it is rated to get 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway. The AWD version's official estimates are 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway. Note that these ratings are identical to the larger GMC Acadia, which has a less powerful version of the same 3.6-liter V-6 engine.

Safety and Technology
Every 2015 Terrain is equipped with OnStar services for the first 6 months of ownership. After that, a paid subscription is required to enjoy automatic crash notification, roadside assistance, turn-by-turn navigation, FamilyLink location sharing service, and more.

New for 2015, OnStar also offers 4G LTE connectivity, turning the Terrain into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Service is free for 3 months or 3GB of data usage, whichever comes first. After that, a subscription is required.

The Terrain's IntelliLink infotainment technology is standard on all trim levels except for the SLE-1. Pair a smartphone to the standard Color Touch radio and you can take advantage of such features as text-messaging alerts, Siri Eyes Free technology, access to Internet radio, and more.

For enhanced safety technologies, choose the SLT-2 trim level for forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning systems. If you're looking for side blind-zone alert and rear cross-traffic alert systems, they're available only for the Terrain Denali.
