The GMC Sierra 1500 is a full-size pickup truck, similar to its cousin, the Chevrolet Silverado. Within the model range, many sizes and capacities are available. The Sierra 1500's 5.3-liter V8 engine has been improved slightly for 2010, the automaker says, to provide slightly better fuel economy. Various V8 engines can all run on e85 fuel or gasoline.

For 2010, the GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in standard cab, extended cab, and crew cab styles. The standard cab is available with a 78-inch or a 96-inch bed; the extended cab gets either a 68-inch or a 96-inch bed; the crew cab has a 68-inch bed. Various trim levels are available depending on the cab style, with the top-of-the-line SLT trim available only with the extended and crew cabs. The SLT trim features a premium interior design, exterior styling enhancements, rain-sensing wipers, leather seating, heated power bucket seats in front, Bluetooth connectivity, and more. With proper equipment, the Sierra 1500 can tow up to 10,700 lbs.

Several towing packages are also available, as are Off-Road and All-Terrain packages, 20- and 22-inch wheels, premium audio, navigation system, rearview camera, and rear-seat entertainment, and several other options. An optional EZ Lift tailgate facilitates loading and unloading.

Standard on the basic Sierra 1500 is a 195-hp 4.3 liter V6 engine, with a 295-hp, 4.8-liter V8 standard with some SLE trims. A 5.3-liter 315-hp V8 is offered as an upgrade: standard on the SLT and some SLE models. Finally, select models can be equipped with a 403-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine. All of the V8 engines can run on E85 or gasoline. A four-speed automatic transmission is standard on the lower trim levels, and the higher trim levels receive a six-speed automatic.
