What's New for 2015:

  • Heated steering wheel added to top trim levels
  • New 20-in. aluminum wheel design
  • Three new paint colors

The 2015 GMC Acadia is a full-size, 3-row, 8-passenger crossover SUV offering more interior space than the majority of its competitors. Alternatives to the Acadia include the Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Nissan Pathfinder, and Toyota Highlander.

Models and Features
There are five different versions of the 2015 Acadia available: SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1, SLT-2, and Denali.

Choose the SLE-2 and enjoy upgrades including IntelliLink connectivity, front center air bag, 8-way power driver's seat, second-row captain's chairs, auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote engine starting, and a power rear liftgate.

The Acadia SLT-1 adds fog lights, heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, and larger 19-in. aluminum wheels. Inside, leather seats are standard, heated up front, and the SLT-1 includes an 8-way power front passenger's seat, aluminum interior trim, triple-zone automatic climate control, rear audio controls, and a programmable garage door opener. Variable-effort steering is also included for SLT-1 models, while the SLT-2 version installs a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, memory for the driver's settings, heated steering wheel, and power-folding exterior mirrors.

The Acadia Denali tops the lineup with unique styling details, HID headlights, perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, dual-panel sunroof, navigation system, forward-collision warning system, lane-departure warning system, and a head-up display. According to GMC, a special acoustics package makes the Denali quieter inside, and the Denali features standard towing equipment, heavy-duty engine cooling, unique dual exhaust system, and 20-in. aluminum wheels.

Under the Hood
A 3.6-liter V-6 engine is standard for all versions of the 2015 Acadia. In the SLE and SLT, it breathes through a single-outlet exhaust system and makes 281 horsepower. In the Denali, an exclusive dual-outlet exhaust system helps the engine to make 288 horsepower.

A 6-speed automatic transmission powers the Acadia's front wheels, and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is optional. GMC also provides free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years and 24,000 miles of ownership. Maximum towing capacity for the Acadia measures 5,200 lbs., when properly equipped.

Fuel Economy
According to EPA estimates, the Acadia gets 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway when equipped with front-wheel drive. Choose the optional AWD system and those numbers drop to 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway.

Safety and Technology
GM's OnStar telematics service is standard and is free for the first 6 months of Acadia ownership. Thereafter, a subscription is required. One highlight of OnStar's features includes its Automatic Crash Response technology, which activates in the case of a collision and speeds rescuers to the site of the accident.

All but the base version of the Acadia include IntelliLink technology, which makes it possible to pair a smartphone to the SUV's infotainment system and enjoy voice-control technology, streaming of Internet radio, HD Radio, and more. A navigation system is optional for Acadias equipped with IntelliLink.

A front center air bag is included on all 2015 Acadias except the base model, deploying between the driver and front passenger in order to protect either person from crash forces originating on the opposite side from where they are sitting. To get side blind-zone alert and rear cross-traffic alert systems, buyers should consider the Acadia SLT-2. The Acadia Denali is exclusively equipped with forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning systems.
