The revitalized 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is sold in coupe or convertible body styles. For 2013, new 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged aluminum wheels feature Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 performance tires.
Because the Shelby GT500 now can exceed a claimed 200 mph, styling details are revised to generate more downforce at higher speeds. Ford claims that at 160 mph the 2013 Shelby GT500 is producing 33% "more effective aero loading" than the previous model.Interior Features
Standard in the Shelby GT500 are leather seats with contrast racing stripes, along with brushed aluminum cabin trim, leather-and-Alcantara steering wheel, metallic pedal covers, Shaker audio system, Ford Sync hands-free connectivity with App Link, and a Track Apps gauge display.Optional Features
Shelby GT500 buyers can take performance to the next level with an SVT Performance package supplying unique wheels, a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, and a Bilstein electronic damping suspension with Normal and Sport modes. An SVT Track package adds an external oil cooler, transmission cooler, and rear differential cooler.
Additionally, the 2013 Shelby GT500 is offered with dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation system, Shaker Pro Audio premium sound system, leather Recaro performance seats, and a glass roof option for coupes.Under the Hood
A 5.8-liter V-8 engine equipped with a 2.3-liter supercharger generates 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, while remaining exempt from the national gas-guzzler tax. A 6-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission choice, and launch control is standard.
Ford has upgraded all of the Shelby GT500's mechanical systems to handle the engine's output. The transmission gains revised gearing and a carbon fiber driveshaft; the cooling system is upgraded; steering assist levels are modified; and a Brembo braking system is installed.Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 are 15 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg in combined driving.Safety
All 2013 Ford Mustangs are equipped with 4 air bags, traction and stability control system, MyKey programmable vehicle settings, and an SOS Post Crash Alert system that unlocks the doors, activates the hazard flashers, and shuts off the fuel pump after an air bag deployment. Side blind-spot mirrors are also standard.
