- The Ford Fusion is a carryover model for 2012
Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Ford Fusion is a midsize sedan, and is offered in five different trim levels. All Fusions are 4-door sedans. Sixteen-inch alloy wheels are standard, with larger alloy wheels available.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Ford Fusion offers seating for up to 5 passengers. Base Fusions feature cloth upholstery, air conditioning, full power accessories, and keyless entry. Upgraded trim levels are fitted with automatic headlights, Ford's Sync audio interface, leather upholstery, navigation, and more.
Optional FeaturesFord has bundled many of the Fusion's options into packages. A Moon & Tune package adds a sunroof and upgraded audio, while a Driver's Vision package adds a blind-spot warning system.
Under the HoodFord Fusions are fitted with one of three standard engines. Base Fusions feature a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 175 horsepower. The optional engine is a 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 240 horsepower. The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, but it is only offered in base trim. The other gasoline-powered models are fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Fusion Hybrid model features a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor for a total system power of 191 horsepower. The Fusion Hybrid features a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Fusions are offered with both front- and all-wheel-drive powertrains.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Ford Fusion are:
- Ford Fusion with 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine: 23/33 mpg (city/highway)
- Ford Fusion with 3.5-liter V-6 engine: 18/27 mpg (city/highway)
- Ford Fusion Hybrid with gasoline-electric powerplant: 41/36 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Ford Fusion include side curtain air bags and torso air bags. In government crash tests, the 2012 Ford Fusion received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Fusion received a "Good" rating-the Institute's highest-for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection. Roof strength results from the Institute were also "Good."
