Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • Revised exterior design
  • More powerful and fuel-efficient standard V-6 engine
  • Re-tuned steering, suspension and brakes
  • New infotainment and safety technologies

Exterior Features
The 2013 Ford Flex is offered in SE, SEL and Limited trim levels. New front styling is the most significant exterior change, aside from six new wheel designs ranging from 17 inches to 20 inches in diameter. Ruby Red, Deep Impact Blue and Kodiak Brown are new colors. The roof can be painted the same color as the body, or in white, silver or black.

Interior Features
The 2013 Flex is a 7-passenger vehicle while 6-passenger seating with second-row captain's chairs divided by a refrigerated center console is optional. The Flex offers 20 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third-row seat, 43.2 cubic feet behind the second row, and 83.2 cubic feet with all rear seats folded. The front passenger seat folds in half, too. Sync wireless connectivity is standard for 2013.

Optional Features
The new Ford Flex can be equipped with next-generation MyFord Touch technology, navigation system, and a Sony premium sound system with capacitive touch controls. Additional extras include heated and cooled front seats, PowerFold  third-row seat, panoramic Vista Roof, and Active Park Assist. A new Titanium Appearance package adds a black roof and mirror caps, unique wheels, special interior trim, and leather seats.

Under the Hood
A new 3.5-liter V-6 engine is standard, making 287 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 254 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission drives the front (FWD) or all four wheels (AWD).

An optional turbocharged, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 generates 365 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 350 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,500 rpm. It needs premium fuel to generate these numbers, but regular gas is acceptable for this engine as well. The 6-speed SelectShift automatic is paired exclusively with AWD.

Electric steering with a faster ratio is standard on the 2013 Flex, allowing Ford to offer standard Torque Vectoring Control and Curve Control technology, as well as optional Active Park Assist. The 2013 Flex's suspension is re-tuned, a new braking system is installed, and additional sound deadening measures have been applied. The Flex tows up to 4,500 pounds.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Ford Flex are:
  • Flex 3.5L FWD: 18/25/20 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Flex 3.5L AWD: 17/23/19 mpg
  • Flex 3.5L EcoBoost AWD: 16/23/18 mpg

Safety
The 2013 Flex is equipped with 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, AdvanceTrac traction and stability control with roll stability control, MyKey programmable safety features, and Sync with 911 Assist. A reversing camera is optional, along with a new adaptive cruise control system with collision warning and brake support, inflatable rear seat belts, and blind-spot and cross-traffic detection.
