Exterior Features
Ford sells the 2013 F-150 pickup in regular, extended (SuperCab), and crew cab (SuperCrew) body styles, with a choice of short, regular, and long cargo beds. As this overview was written, confirmed trim levels include XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. The SVT Raptor model is a factory-prepped baja-style truck, and the FX Appearance package is available to provide a sportier look for the XLT trim.

Interior Features
Depending on the cab style and seating arrangement, the F-150 can carry between 2 and 6 passengers. A new 4.2-inch information display screen is added to the F-150's dashboard for 2013.

Optional Features
For 2013, MyFord Touch is optional for the first time on the F-150, complete with an 8-inch color touch screen and a media hub with USB ports, SD card reader, and audio/video input jacks.

Under the Hood
Four different engines are offered in the 2013 F-150. A 3.7-liter V-6 engine creates 302 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 278 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. It can tow up to 6,100 pounds.

A turbocharged, 3.5-liter V-6 engine, dubbed "EcoBoost," generates 365 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,400 rpm. Ford says 90% of peak torque is available between 1,700 and 5,000 rpm, and that EcoBoost models can tow up to 11,300 pounds.

An available 5.0-liter V-8 engine generates 360 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 380 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,250 rpm. This engine can tow up to 10,000 pounds.

The stronger 6.2-liter V-8 engine delivers 411 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 434 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm, giving the F-150 the ability to tow 11,300 pounds.

When properly equipped, maximum payload capacity ranges from 2,620 pounds for SuperCrew models to 3,120 pounds for regular cab models.

Fuel Economy
Ford provides the following fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 F-150 lineup:
  • F-150 with 3.7-liter V-6 and 2WD: 17/23 mpg (city/highway)
  • F-150 with 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 and 2WD: 16/22 mpg
  • F-150 with 5.0-liter V-8 and 2WD: 15/21 mpg
  • F-150 with 6.2-liter V-8 and 2WD: 13/18 mpg

Safety
The 2013 F-150 includes 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control with roll stability control, trailer sway control, and an SOS Post Crash Alert system. The truck is available with a reversing camera and Sync with 911 Assist.

Crash-test ratings for the 2013 F-150 were unavailable as this overview was written. The structurally identical 2012 model received a 4-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for all cab styles, and a "Top Safety Pick" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the SuperCrew model.
