What Changed for the 2010 Ford F-150:

• The 2010 Ford F-150 is a carryover model

• Raptor model is equipped with Ford's first application of Hill Descent Control, and has a stability control system with Sport and Off-Road modes to reduce or eliminate intervention by the traction and stability systems

Ford's F Series pickup trucks have been around since 1948, and the entry-level F-150 has been Ford's best-selling full-size pickup since the 1970s. The Ford F-150 underwent a full design change for the 2009 model year, which mainly carries over to 2010. A new performance version, the F-150 SVT Raptor, makes its introduction this year, and the Harley-Davidson trim level has been restored.

For 2010, three body styles and nine trim levels are available. The regular cab model has a choice of a 78-inch or 96-inch cargo bed; the SuperCab adds a 66-inch option as well; and the Super Crew offers the two small beds (66-inch or 78-inch) and eliminates the eight-footer.

The base XL trim level has 17-inch wheels, vinyl seating, radio, and air conditioning. Various other trim levels add more amenities and accessories, up to the Harley-Davidson model, which has 22-inch wheels, heated and cooled front seats, leather upholstery, upgraded sound system, and more. The SVT Raptor, which is built for off-road use, features a suspension system, wheels, and tires that are suitable to rough terrain. The Raptor and the Harley-Davidson edition both feature exclusive exterior and interior styling treatments appropriate to their names.

The F-150 is available with three V8 engine choices, while a more-powerful fourth engine is available for the Raptor. With 4.6 liters of displacement, the base engine makes 248 hp and 293 lb.-ft. of torque and is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The next step up is a 4.6-liter engine that makes 292 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5.4-liter V8 engine produced 320 hp and 390 lb.-ft. Both of those come with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 5.4-liter engine is standard on the Raptor, while a 400-hp, 6.2-liter V8 is optional, and also paired with six-speed automatic transmission. With the 5.4-liter engine, the F-150 can tow up to 11,300 lbs. and carry a payload of 3,300 lbs.

The 2010 F-150 earned five stars on all NHTSA impact tests. The MSRP ranges from $22,060 to $39,915.
