What's New for 2013:

  • New turbocharged engines
  • New safety and infotainment technology
  • New luxury-themed Titanium trim level

Exterior Features
Ford offers the redesigned 2013 Escape in S, SE, SEL and Titanium trim levels, with aluminum wheel designs up to 19 inches available, depending on the model. Active front grille shutters are designed to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.

Interior Features
The new 2013 Escape provides 34.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row seat. Fold the rear seat and maximum volume increases to 68.1 cubic feet. The new Escape's carpeting is made from recycled plastic bottles; the seat cushion foam is developed from plant seeds; and Ford says it has replaced 300,000 pounds of annual oil-based resin production in the U.S. by replacing it with kenaf plant material in the Escape's door construction.

Optional Features
Depending on the trim level, the following items are either standard or optional for the 2013 Escape: leather, panoramic sunroof, hands-free power tailgate, keyless entry and push-button start, MyFord Touch infotainment technology, Sony premium audio, navigation system, front and rear park-assist sensors, and Active Park Assist technology.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Ford Escape S is equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 168 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 170 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm. The new Escape SE and SEL have a direct-injected and turbocharged 1.6-liter, EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine making 178 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 184 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,500 rpm.

Optional on SE and SEL and standard on the 2013 Escape Titanium is a direct-injected, turbocharged, 2.0-liter, EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine making 240 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 270 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm. The tow rating for this engine is 3,500 pounds.

Both of the new Escape's EcoBoost engines will run on regular unleaded gas, but these power output figures are valid only when premium fuel is used.

A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard, delivering power to the Escape's front wheels. An optional Intelligent 4WD system with torque vectoring control is available with the EcoBoost engines.

Fuel Economy
The 2013 Ford Escape's EPA fuel-economy ratings are:
  • Escape 2.5L FWD: 22/31/25 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Escape 1.6L EcoBoost FWD: 23/33/TBD mpg

  • Escape 2.0L EcoBoost FWD: 22/30/25 mpg

The 2013 Ford Escape is equipped with 7 air bags, including one for the driver's knees. Anti-lock brakes with brake assist are standard, and the traction and stability control system includes Curve Control, which selectively brakes individual wheels to keep the Escape under control if the driver enters a corner too fast, Ford says. Trailer sway control and MyKey programmable safety features are also standard.

Optional safety features on the Escape include Sync with 911 Assist, reversing camera, and a blind-spot monitoring system with cross-traffic alert.
