Overview

What's New
The Crown Victoria adds a new color (Tungsten Clearcoat Metallic) and new 16-inch, 9-spoke wheels for LX models. An in-glass antenna replaces the traditional mast antenna, and LX/LX Sport models get a standard trip computer.

Overview
The Ford Crown Victoria is the last of the traditional American full-size sedans with V-8 power and rear-wheel drive. Police departments and taxi operators are responsible for the bulk of this model's sales, but Ford still offers consumer-oriented Standard, LX, and LX Sport versions. Standard and LX models have a front bench seat that increases seating capacity to six passengers, while the LX Sport gets front bucket seats that are divided by a center console.

Power comes from a 4.6L V-8 engine that drives the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. The single-exhaust version of the engine produces 224 hp and 272 lb.-ft. of torque. Opt for dual exhaust (or the LX Sport) and output rises to 239 hp and 287 lb.-ft. EPA mileage figures are 17 city/25 highway, and an available flexible-fuel version can burn gasoline or E85 ethanol-based fuel. A Handling and Performance Package, optional on LX and standard on LX Sport, improves roadholding by adding heavy-duty suspension components that include a rear air suspension system.

Standard equipment includes power windows/locks/mirrors, air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, AM/FM stereo with cassette, cruise control, and an 8-way power seat for the driver. LX models add a CD player, automatic climate control, trip computer, remote keyless entry, optional leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and climate controls, auto-dimming rear view mirror, power passenger's seat, and an upgraded stereo with both CD and cassette players.

The Competition
The Ford Crown Victoria is one of 14 models competing in the Large Conventional segment. Value is the name of the game in this primarily domestic-branded segment.

According to the J.D. Power and Associates Sales Report,SM Ford sold 63,939 Crown Victorias in calendar year 2005. Also residing in the segment is the Crown Victoria's near twin, the Mercury Grand Marquis.
