Exterior Features
The 2013 Dodge Journey is a 2- or 3-row, 5- or 7-passenger crossover SUV offered in American Value Package (AVP), SE, SXT, Crew, and R/T trim levels. Standard equipment for the Journey AVP includes power heated exterior mirrors and 17-inch wheels with plastic wheel covers.

Interior Features
The Journey AVP trim level is equipped with dual-zone manual air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and keyless entry with push-button ignition. Standard are a CD player, USB port, and an auxiliary audio input jack. The Journey AVP also includes a height-adjustable driver's seat, sliding and reclining second-row seat, LED footwell lighting, vehicle information display, and automatic-off headlights.

Optional Features
Options for the Dodge Journey AVP include upgraded seat fabric, power driver's seat, fold-flat Flip 'n Stow front-passenger seat, and triple-zone air conditioning. Also optional on this trim level are Uconnect Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and floor mats.

The 2013 Dodge Journey SE trim adds LED taillights, roof rack, and dark-tinted rear windows. Options duplicate those of the Journey AVP trim, but the SE can also be equipped with automatic climate control, remote engine starting, auto-dimming rearview mirror, illuminated visor vanity mirrors, and an upgraded sound system. Additional SE options include a reversing camera, park-assist sensors, Uconnect touch-screen radio with satellite radio and SD card slot, universal garage door opener, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.

The 2013 Dodge Journey SXT trim is equipped with a V-6 engine, 17-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, dual exhaust outlets, and body-color side mirror housings. Standard on the SXT are Uconnect Voice Command technology, along with satellite radio, floor mats, upgraded interior trim, LED map lights, auto-dimming rearview mirror, cargo compartment cover, cargo net, and remote engine starting. The SXT trim also provides a removable and rechargeable flashlight.

In addition to sharing some options with the Journey SE trim level, the Journey SXT is offered with a power sunroof, heated front seats, Uconnect 8.4 touch-screen technology, navigation system, rear-seat entertainment system, premium sound system, hands-free texting capability, and Bluetooth music streaming technology.

The 2013 Dodge Journey Crew trim level is equipped with extra chrome exterior trim, 19-inch aluminum wheels, premium leather seats, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, premium sound system, and Uconnect 8.4 touch-screen technology. Optional on this trim are chrome wheels, as well as a rear-seat entertainment system, hands-free texting, Bluetooth music streaming capability, navigation system, and power sunroof.

The Journey R/T trim is equipped like the Journey Crew, but includes body-color exterior trim, Satin Carbon 19-inch wheels, performance-tuned suspension, perforated leather seats, and dimpled leather steering wheel and shift knob. The Journey R/T is offered with the same options as the Journey Crew.

Any 2013 Journey model can be optioned with integrated second-row child booster seats and a third-row seat, while Journeys with a V-6 engine can be equipped with all-wheel drive.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Dodge Journey AVP and SE trims are equipped with a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine driving the front wheels (FWD) through a 4-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive (AWD) is not available with the 4-cylinder engine.

Standard on SXT, Crew and R/T trims is a 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine, with power flowing to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional with this model.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Dodge Journey are:
  • Journey 4-cylinder FWD: 19/26/21 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Journey V-6 FWD: 17/25/20 mpg
  • Journey V-6 AWD: 16/24/19 mpg

The 2013 Dodge Journey is equipped with 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, trailer sway control, and 7 air bags including a knee air bag for the driver. Optional are a reversing camera, parking sensors, and integrated second-row child booster seats.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2013 Dodge Journey an overall crash-test rating of 4 (out of 5) stars. As this overview was written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had not tested the 2013 Journey. However, the structurally identical 2012 model was named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Institute.
