Overview

The Dodge Journey is a midsize crossover SUV that the automaker touts as more maneuverable than some competitors due to its shorter wheelbase. For 2011, the Dodge Journey has a new list of trim levels and adds a more powerful engine, as well as improvements to the suspension, steering, and interior.

The base 2011 Dodge Journey Express trim comes with 16-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, power accessories, dual-zone climate control, touch-screen interface, and a 6-speaker sound system. The Mainstreet trim upgrades to a V-6 engine, 17-inch wheels, and other enhancements. The Crew trim has 19-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and a power driver's seat. The R/T trim differs incrementally from the Crew. The top-line Journey Lux trim steps up to leather upholstery with heated front seats, Bluetooth connectivity, and a navigation system. Upper trim levels also employ a larger touch screen. Many other options are available as stand-alones or as part of a package. Maximum cargo capacity is 68 cubic feet, according to Dodge.

The 2011 Dodge Journey's Express trim employs a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The standard power plant on other trims is a 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine that delivers 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive, which is standard on all Journeys. All-wheel drive is available to all trims above Express. The Express employs a 4-speed automatic transmission; other trims upgrade to a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shifters.

Standard safety features on the 2011 Dodge Journey include anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, front-seat side air bags, and side curtain air bags. Parking sensors and a rearview camera are standard on the Journey Lux trim. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Journey highest-possible "Good" ratings in all crash tests.

Starting MSRPs for the 2011 Dodge Journey ranged from $22,245 to $33,645.
