Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • Entry-level sedan replaces Dodge Caliber
  • Shares platform with European-market Alfa Romeo Giuletta
  • Six trim levels
  • Three different engines
  • Multiple color combinations
  • Mopar catalog of custom accessories

Exterior Features
Dodge offers the 2013 Dart in SE, SXT, Rallye, Limited, and R/T trim levels. Each trim is equipped with projector-beam headlights, LED racetrack-style taillights, and a signature Dodge cross-hair grille. Dodge estimates that available active grille shutters and underbody panels reduce aerodynamic drag and improve fuel economy to as much as 41 mpg on the highway.

Interior Features
Although classified as a compact sedan, the Dart is equipped with a midsize sedan interior. Standard are soft-touch surfaces, along with power windows, 6-way manually adjustable front seats, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a stereo with CD player and auxiliary audio input jack.

Optional Features
Optional features on other trims beyond the base Dart SE include air conditioning, power mirrors, power door locks with remote keyless entry, cruise control, and aluminum wheels. Higher trim levels can be outfitted with an 8.4-inch Uconnect Touch Media Center infotainment system with navigation, USB port, SD card slot, and iPod control. Other upgrades include dual-zone automatic climate control with a humidity sensor, premium 506-watt sound system, Nappa leather seats, heated steering wheel, and Keyless Enter 'N Go with push-button starting. The Dart also offers an in-seat front-passenger seat storage compartment.

Under the Hood
All Darts except the R/T trim are equipped with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 160 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard, with a 6-speed automatic transmission optional.

A turbocharged, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine creating 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque is optional on all Darts except the SE and R/T trims. It is paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-dry clutch automated manual transmission.

The Dart R/T is equipped with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine creating 184 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, with a 6-speed automatic transmission optional.

Fuel Economy
As this overview was written, the EPA had only provided fuel-economy estimates for the following 2013 Dart models:
  • Dart 2.0L with manual transmission: 25/36/29 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Dart 1.4L Turbo with manual transmission: 27/32/39 mpg

Safety
Dodge equips the 2013 Dart with 10 air bags, traction and stability control, trailer sway control, and hill-start assist. The Dart also has 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, ready-alert braking, and rain brake support.

Safety-related options include a reversing camera, rear park-assist sensors, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming SmartBeam headlights, blind-spot monitoring system, and a rear cross-path detection system.

As this overview was written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had performed crash tests on the 2013 Dodge Dart.
