Exterior Features
The 2013 Dodge Charger is a full-size, 4-door family sedan sold in 7 trim levels: SE, SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Road & Track, and R/T Max. A performance-tuned Charger SRT8 is also offered, and is covered in a separate overview.

Standard equipment for the base Charger SE trim includes power exterior mirrors, automatic headlights, LED "racetrack" taillights, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior Features
The 2013 Dodge Charger SE offers standard air conditioning, keyless entry with push-button ignition, power windows, 6-way power driver's seat, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and Uconnect touch-screen multimedia center with a USB/iPod connection and an auxiliary audio input jack.

Optional Features
Optional for the Charger SE is an 8-speed automatic transmission, along with satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. For 2013, a new Sport Appearance Group option package provides 18-inch chrome wheels, performance tires, and a rear spoiler.

The 2013 Dodge Charger SXT trim includes a dual-zone automatic climate control system, upgraded Uconnect technology, premium sound system, and 12-way power heated front seats. Also standard are heated side mirrors, remote engine starting, leather-wrapped steering wheel, universal garage door opener, and fog lights.

Options for the Charger SXT include a spoiler, 18-inch aluminum wheels, power sunroof, park-assist sensors, reversing camera, and a navigation system. A Rallye Appearance Group option package includes 20-inch chrome wheels, performance brakes, performance suspension, cold-air induction kit, sport exhaust system, sport seats, paddle shifters, transmission "Sport" mode, and a Beats by Dr. Dre surround-sound audio system. A Blacktop package provides the same upgrades but with blacked-out exterior trim.

The Charger SXT Plus trim adds leather, heated rear seats, heated and cooled cup holders, and 18-inch chrome wheels. The options list is identical to the SXT trim, but the SXT Plus can also be equipped with a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control system with forward-collision warning technology, and a Driver Confidence Group option package with heated and ventilated front seats, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, and memory for the driver's settings.

The 2013 Dodge Charger R/T trim adds a V-8 engine to the SXT's features, along with a 5-speed AutoStick transmission, performance brakes, performance suspension, performance exhaust system, 18-inch aluminum wheels, high-intensity discharge headlights, sport-bolstered seats, and a 160-mph speedometer. A Wheels & Tunes Group includes 20-inch aluminum wheels, paddle shifters, "Sport" mode for the transmission, rear spoiler, and a Beats by Dr. Dre audio system. Also available for the Charger R/T is a Driver Confidence Group option package that includes a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-path detection system, reversing camera, rain-sensing wipers, and auto-dimming headlights. Additional extras include a navigation system, parking sensors, power sunroof, rear spoiler, and all-wheel drive.

The R/T Plus trim features the same upgrades as the SXT Plus trim. Options are the same as for the standard R/T, but the R/T Plus is also available with an Adaptive Cruise Control Group option package, which includes a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control system, and forward-collision warning technology.

The Charger R/T Road & Track trim includes 20-inch chrome wheels, black honeycomb grille, rear spoiler, and powertrain revisions intended to make the car feel more responsive. Also included on this trim are heated and ventilated leather sport seats with suede inserts, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, and magnesium paddle shifters. Exclusive to the R/T Road & Track trim, the Super Track Pak option adds performance tires, larger suspension stabilizer bars, and high-performance suspension and braking components. Options are the same as for the R/T Plus trim.

The Dodge Charger R/T Max trim is equipped with all features except a rear spoiler, power sunroof, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Dodge Charger SE, SXT and SXT Plus trims are equipped with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine producing 292 horsepower, which is sent to the rear wheels (RWD). The SE trim offers a standard 5-speed automatic transmission. An 8-speed automatic transmission is optional on the SE and standard on the SXT and SXT Plus trims.

Charger R/T models are equipped with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine generating 370 horsepower. The V-8 is equipped with a cylinder-deactivation and deceleration fuel shut-off system designed to maximize fuel economy.

Dodge offers an optional all-wheel-drive system on most Charger models that employs an active transfer case and a front-axle disconnect system to maximize fuel economy.

EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Dodge Charger are:

  • Charger V-6 with 8-speed automatic: 19/31/23 mpg
  • Charger V-6 AWD: 18/27/21 mpg
  • Charger V-8 RWD: 16/25/19 mpg
  • Charger V-8 AWD: 15/23/18 mpg

Safety
Every 2013 Dodge Charger includes 7 air bags, traction and stability control, hill-start assist, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist, ready-alert braking, and rain brake support features.

Optional safety-related technologies include a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-path detection technology, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning system, rear park-assist sensors, reversing camera, and rain-sensing wipers.

In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2013 Charger received an overall rating of 5 (out of 5) stars. As this overview was written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had not tested the 2013 Charger. However, the structurally identical 2012 model was named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Institute.
