Overview

What's New for 2013:

  • Upgraded Uconnect navigation
  • Five additional exterior paint colors

Exterior Features
The 2013 Dodge Challenger is a 5-passenger, 2-door coupe sold in SXT, SXT Plus, Rallye Redline, R/T, R/T Plus, and R/T Classic trim levels. A performance-tuned version called the 392 SRT8 is also available, and is detailed in a separate article.

The Challenger SXT is equipped with standard 18-inch aluminum wheels, dual exhaust outlets, hood scoops, power exterior mirrors, and a racing-style fuel filler door.

Interior Features
Standard equipment on the Challenger SXT includes cloth seats, 8-way power driver's seat, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, and a 6-speaker stereo with a CD player. Automatic climate control and a push-button ignition system are also included on the SXT trim.

Optional Features
Options for the Challenger SXT include a premium audio system with satellite radio and Uconnect Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming.

The Challenger SXT Plus is equipped with those two features plus leather seats, heated front seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, USB port, iPod connection, and an auxiliary audio input jack. Rear park-assist sensors, automatic headlights, and fog lights are also standard on this trim level.

The SXT Plus trim is available with optional 20-inch wheels, power sunroof, remote engine starting, heated exterior mirrors, universal garage door opener, and Uconnect infotainment technology with a navigation system and real-time traffic and weather reports. A Super Sport Group option package is also offered for the Challenger SXT Plus, which includes performance suspension, performance brakes, 20-inch wheels, rear spoiler, transmission "Sport" mode, paddle shifters, and a 3.06 rear axle ratio for quicker acceleration.

The Challenger Rallye Redline debuted halfway through the 2012 model year, and returns for 2013 with the Super Sport Group equipment plus performance seats, Black Chrome wheels, and Redline Red body stripes and exterior accents.

The 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T trims feature the same standard equipment and options as the SXT lineup. The difference is that the R/T gets a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, 6-speed manual gearbox, performance suspension, performance brakes, performance steering, limited-slip rear differential, and a rear spoiler.

The Challenger R/T's options list is similar to the SXT and SXT Plus, but the R/T can also be outfitted with performance tires and R/T fender stripes. A Super Track Pak option includes 3-season performance tires, upgraded suspension and brake components, and the ability to turn off the stability control system.

The Challenger R/T Plus trim comes with the same luxury-themed features as the SXT Plus, along with a security alarm, universal garage door opener, and body-color exterior mirrors. Available options mirror the Challenger R/T, but high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights are also offered on this trim.

An upgraded version of the R/T Plus is called the R/T Classic, which adds 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, dual R/T side stripes, functional hood scoops, and HID headlights.

Under the Hood
The Challenger SXT trims and the Rallye Redline are equipped with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that generates 305 horsepower and 268 lb.-ft. of torque. A cold-air induction kit and a dual exhaust system are standard, along with a 5-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode.

The Challenger R/T comes with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine generating 375 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard with this engine, with a 5-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters available as an option. The powertrain that includes an automatic transmission creates 372 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, and includes a Fuel Saver mode that shuts down 4 of the 8 cylinders when cruising and when decelerating to conserve gas.
