The Dodge Challenger is a full-size, retro-styled 2-door coupe. The original Dodge Challenger was an American muscle car that debuted for the 1970 model year, but was discontinued in 1974. Dodge revived the Challenger nameplate in 2008, when it reintroduced an all-new model as a retro-styled full-size coupe. Just a few years into its current run, Dodge has fitted the 2011 Challenger with an even more powerful engine and made several other enhancements for the new model year.
Dodge offers its 2011 Challenger in four different trims: SE, Rallye, R/T, and SRT8. Standard equipment on the base Challenger SE model includes cloth upholstery, full power accessories, air conditioning with automatic climate control, cruise control, 8-way power driver's seat, 6-speaker audio system, 60/40 split-folding second-row seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, and more. An optional Connectivity Group, standard on the R/T, adds Bluetooth phone connectivity, satellite radio, iPod interface, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Challenger R/T is also upgraded with the V-8 engine, automatic headlamps, heated mirrors, sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, 20-inch chrome-clad alloy wheels, and other performance enhancements. The Challenger SRT8 is the flagship variant designed for driving enthusiasts. In addition to the oversized engine, it features larger brakes, tuned suspension, Xenon headlamps, sport seats, upgraded trip computer, hydraulic power steering, 20-inch alloy wheels, and more. The Challenger SRT8 also includes a one-day pass to the Richard Petty Racing School.
The 2011 Dodge Challenger is offered with one of three different engines. The standard power plant is a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine rated at 305 horsepower. The Challenger R/T is fitted with a 5.7-liter 8-cylinder engine rated at 376 horsepower, while the SRT8 is fitted with a 6.4-liter 8-cylinder rated at 470 horsepower. The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, however a 5-speed automatic is optional. Rear-wheel drive is standard on all 2011 Dodge Challenger variants. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Dodge Challenger between 14 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, depending on engine and transmission.
The 2011 Dodge Challenger SE starts at a base price of around $25,000, while the SRT8 starts at around $43,000.
