The Chrysler Town & Country is a 7-passenger minivan that was first introduced for the 1990 model year on the heels of its Dodge Caravan cousin. Like the Caravan, the Town & Country was built on a unibody platform to offer carlike ride and handling. Unlike the Caravan, the Town & Country targeted a more upscale buyer, with a longer list of standard features, and a longer wheelbase for its more demanding consumer base. The current, fifth-generation Grand Caravan was launched in 2008 with a standard long wheelbase, but the all-wheel-drive variant has since been dropped. The 2011 model year finds the Chrysler brand's only minivan competing against all-new minivans from Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. As a result, Chrysler has made several changes to keep its premium offering up-to-date. Changes include a new engine, recalibrated suspension to improve the ride, lowered ride height for better handling, increased sound deadening to quiet the cabin, new LED ambient lighting, and an improved interior, to name a few.
The 2011 Chrysler Town & Country is offered in three trims: Touring, Touring-L, and Limited. All are fitted with three rows of seats, including the automaker's Stow 'n Go seats that are designed to drop out of the way to increase capacity. Town & Country Touring models are fitted with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power driver's seat, full power accessories, 16-inch alloy wheels, and more. The Touring-L adds leather upholstery, auto-dimming side mirrors, remote ignition, power front-passenger seat, heated front seats, second- and third-row sun shades, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The range-topping Town & Country Limited is equipped with upgraded leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, heated steering wheel, Bluetooth phone connectivity, Xenon headlamps, navigation system, rear-seat entertainment, 9-speaker upgraded audio, and other premium features.
The 2011 Chrysler Town & Country is offered with just one engine-a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder rated at 283 horsepower. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is not offered. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country between 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. The engine is E85-compatible, but fuel economy will be significantly lower if that particular type of fuel is chosen.
The 2011 Chrysler Town & Country Touring starts at a base price of around $31,000 and tops out with the Limited, which starts at around $40,000.
