Overview
The Chrysler Pacifica was introduced for the 2004 model year and it received a mild facelift for 2007. An SUV shaped like a minivan, it has regular rear doors instead of the sliding doors used on minivans. The base model has seating for 5 with two rows of seats, while the other models seat 6, with three rows of two each. It is available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). Two V-6 engines are offered, and all Pacificas use an automatic transmission. With the rear seats folded the Pacifica has up to 92.7 cubic feet of cargo room. Properly equipped, the Pacifica can tow up to 2600 pounds.

Model Lineup
The 2008 Chrysler Pacifica comes in three trim levels: base LX, upscale Touring and top-line Limited, each available with FWD or AWD. LX models seat 5, with two front bucket seats and a 65/35 split folding second-row bench. Standard features include Chrysler's YES Essentials cloth upholstery (stain-, odor- and static-resistant); dual-zone manual climate control; 8-way power adjustable driver's seat; 4-way power adjustable front passenger seat; tilt steering column; power locks and windows; remote keyless entry; AM/FM stereo with CD player and 6 speakers; steering wheel audio controls; cruise control; alarm; roof rails; load-leveling rear suspension; and P235/65R17 all-season tires on steel wheels. Touring models have second-row bucket seats and a third-row folding bench for seating for 6; dual-zone automatic climate control; cabin air filter; Infinity sound system with 200-watt amplifier; Sirius satellite radio with one-year subscription; auto-dimming rearview mirror; heated outside mirrors; 10-way power adjustable driver's seat; automatic headlights; vehicle information center; leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel; universal door opener; fog lamps; and alloy wheels. The Limited gets leather upholstery; heated front and second-row seats; 6-disc CD changer; auto-dimming driver's side mirror; sunroof; wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; power adjustable pedals; power liftgate; ParkSense rear obstacle detection; rear cargo net; cargo area tonneau cover; and P235/55R19 all-season tires on chromed alloy wheels. Options include a rear DVD entertainment system; 385-watt Infinity Intermezzo Surround Sound with 8 Infinity speakers and subwoofer; Chrysler's UConnect hands-free cell phone link; High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights; DVD-based navigation system; and rear backup camera.

Powertrain
The front-wheel-drive 2008 Chrysler Pacifica LX is powered by a 3.8-liter, overhead-valve V-6 engine that produces 200 hp at 5000 rpm and 235 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. All other Pacificas have a 4.0-liter, overhead-cam V-6 engine that delivers 253 hp at 6000 rpm and 262 lb.-ft. of torque at 4100 rpm. The 4.0 sends its power through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 3.8-liter V-6 engine gets 15 mpg city/22 mpg highway, according to EPA fuel economy ratings. The 4.0-liter V-6 engine is rated at 15 mpg city/23 mpg highway with FWD and 14 mpg city/22 mpg highway with AWD. Chrysler's AWD system is front-biased but varies power delivery front to rear to maximize traction. It lacks low-range gearing and is meant more for foul weather than off-roading.

Safety
Standard safety equipment on the 2008 Chrysler Pacifica includes multi-stage front air bags; head-protecting curtain side air bags that cover all seating rows; a tire-pressure monitor; ABS with brake assist; traction control; and electronic stability control. ParkSense rear obstacle detection is standard on Limited and optional otherwise. A ParkView rear back-up camera is optional. The Pacifica has performed well in government crash tests, earning a 5-star rating for front and side impacts from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and 4 stars for rollover resistance.

Technology
Brake assist is an active power booster that provides maximum braking power when a driver stomps on the brake pedal in an emergency situation. The ParkView rear backup camera is located in the tailgate. It projects a wide-angle view of the area behind the vehicle onto the navigation screen when the vehicle is put in reverse.
