What's New for 2013:

  • Restyled exterior
  • Updated interior
  • Re-tuned suspension
  • Standard front-seat center air bag

Exterior Features
The 2013 Traverse is sold in LS, 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ trim levels. Chevrolet says the Traverse's new front styling will set the trend for all future Chevy crossover SUVs. Also, new rear liftgate and taillight designs debut for 2013.

Interior Features
Chevrolet emphasizes the 8-passenger Traverse's interior space, comparing the crossover SUV to a minivan. With the second- and third-row seats folded down, the Traverse can handle up to 116.3 cubic feet of cargo, more than a Chevy Tahoe. For 2013, the Traverse's interior gains ambient lighting, soft-touch materials on the dashboard and upper door panels, articulating headrests, and redesigned controls for the climate system and stereo.

Optional Features
Among the options offered on the new 2013 Traverse, depending on trim level, are leather seats, an 8-way power front-passenger seat, second-row captain's chairs, and a rear-seat entertainment system. Optional is Chevrolet MyLink infotainment technology, including a color touch screen, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and music streaming, Pandora and Stitcher radio compatibility, and more. Additionally, the Traverse is available with a navigation system, side blind-zone alert system, and a rear cross-traffic alert system.

Under the Hood
Every 2013 Traverse is equipped with a direct-injection, 3.6-liter V-6 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission, and can tow up to 5,200 pounds. Horsepower and torque ratings are dependent on the exhaust system. Traverse LS and LT trims have a single exhaust outlet, allowing the V-6 to produce 281 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. The dual exhaust system on the Traverse LTZ increases those ratings to 288 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system optional.

Fuel Economy
The EPA has not yet provided fuel-economy estimates for 2013 Traverse models. However,  Chevrolet makes the following estimates for the 2013 Traverse:
  • Traverse FWD: 17/24/19 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Traverse AWD: 16/23/19 mpg

Chevrolet installs 6 air bags in the Traverse, including side curtain air bags, for all three rows of seats. Also standard are traction control, stability control, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with hill-start assist, as well as a reversing camera and 6 months of free OnStar service including Automatic Crash Response. The Traverse LTZ includes side blind-zone alert and rear cross-traffic alert systems.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had performed crash tests of the updated 2013 Traverse as this overview was written.
