Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Traverse is a large 4-door crossover, and is offered in four different trim levels. Seventeen-inch steel wheels are standard, with larger wheels available on higher grades.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Traverse offers seating for up to 8 passengers. Base Traverse models are configured with cloth upholstery, full power accessories, split-folding second- and third-row bench seats, remote keyless entry, cruise control, automatic headlights, and dark tinted privacy glass. Higher trim levels are configured with triple-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated power front seats, up to 20-inch wheels, USB audio port, rear audio system, 7-passenger seating (with a second row of captain's chairs), power-operated tailgate, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth phone connectivity, leather upholstery, and other premium equipment.
Optional FeaturesMajor options on the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse include a trailer-towing package (maximum trailer weight of 5200 pounds when properly equipped), navigation system with real-time traffic and a rearview camera, dual sunroofs, and a rear-seat DVD-based entertainment system.
Under the HoodChevrolet Traverse models are fitted with one engine. The standard powerplant is a 3.6-liter V-6 rated at 281 horsepower. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive, designed to improve traction in inclement weather, is optional.

- Chevrolet Traverse FWD with 3.6-liter V-6 engine: 17/24 mpg (city/highway)
- Chevrolet Traverse AWD with 3.6-liter V-6 engine: 16/23 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse include side curtain air bags for all three rows and 1 year of General Motors' OnStar service. In government crash tests, the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse received an overall rating of 5 (out of 5) stars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Traverse received a "Good" rating-the Institute's highest-for frontal-offset, side-impact, and rear crash protection. The Traverse also earned a "Good" rating in the Institute's roof strength tests.
