Exterior FeaturesThe 2013 Chevrolet Suburban is available with a half-ton (1500) or three-quarter-ton (2500) chassis in LS, LT or LTZ (1500 only) trim levels. The LS trim features heated power exterior mirrors, dark-tinted rear glass, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The wheels on the Suburban 2500 are an 8-lug design and use all-terrain tires.
Interior FeaturesThe Suburban LS includes fabric seats, power driver's seat, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel, cruise control, floor mats, and triple-zone air conditioning. Additionally, the 6-speaker stereo is equipped with satellite radio and a USB port, and the Suburban includes Bluetooth connectivity and OnStar telematics service.
Optional FeaturesThe LT trim level features leather, heated front seats, power-adjustable pedals, automatic climate control, Bose premium sound system, rear park-assist sensors, remote engine starting, and fog lights.
The LTZ trim level adds 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, chrome exterior trim, Autoride suspension, power-folding side mirrors, reversing camera, side blind-zone alert system, and a power liftgate. Additionally, the LTZ is equipped with a touch-screen navigation system, perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated second-row bucket seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Under the HoodHalf-ton models have a 5.3-liter V-8 engine with Active Fuel Management cylinder-deactivation technology that delivers 320 horsepower and 335 lb.-ft. of torque, and drives the rear (2WD) or all four wheels (4WD) through a 6-speed automatic transmission. Maximum payload measures 1,576 pounds, and this engine can tow up to 5,100 pounds.
The Suburban 2500 is equipped with a 6.0-liter V-8 engine generating 352 horsepower and 382 lb.-ft. of torque, which is bolted to a heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is available. The maximum payload rating is 2,450 pounds, and this version of the Suburban can tow up to 9,600 pounds.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Chevy Suburban are:
- Suburban 1500 2WD: 15/21/17 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Suburban 1500 4WD: 15/21/17 mpg
- Suburban 2500 2WD: 10/16/12 mpg
- Suburban 2500 4WD: 10/15/12 mpg
SafetyThe 2013 Suburban is equipped with 6 air bags, but the side curtains protect occupants in the first two rows of seats only. Standard are traction control, stability control, and 4-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes, along with 6 months of free OnStar service including Automatic Crash Response. Rear park-assist sensors are standard on the LT and LTZ trims, while the LTZ is also equipped with a reversing camera and a side blind-zone alert system.
In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests, the 2013 Suburban 1500 received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars, and 3 stars for rollover resistance for both the 2WD and the 4WD models.
