The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD soldier on as mostly carrover from 2008, but with minor enhancements, primarily in technology and safety areas. These heavy-duty trucks still pack plenty of convenience and features as standard equipment-and tow up to 16,700 pounds when equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch. A standard Vortec 6.0-liter V-8 engine or optional Duramax 6.6-liter V-8 diesel engine, and two 6-speed automatic transmissions, comprise the powertrains. New this year is a new exterior color: Black Metallic.

Model Lineup
The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD is available in multiple configurations, including three cab styles (regular, extended and crew cab) and three cargo box styles (standard 78-inch, long 96-inch, and Dually dual-rear-wheel configuration on long 96-inch box in 3500HD). There are five wheelbase lengths for these 2500HD (three-quarter-ton) or 3500HD (one-ton) heavy-duty pickups, which are available in Work Truck (WT), LT and LTZ trim.

New features for 2009 include a wider, taller dual-port grille with a big gold bow tie emblem front and center. Tailgate designs include a lock and optional EZ Lift feature. An optional cargo management system is complemented by numerous accessory packages available through dealers. Each Silverado 2500HD/3500HD features two new and distinct interior designs, including specific gauge cluster appearance, appointments and trim. Standard equipment includes a manual-control climate control system and power-operated rear side glass (on extended cab models). Base and mid-level trim trucks have a pure and functional truck interior design theme with specific door panels and large door pull and release handles, unique seat configurations, center console and underseat storage systems, and two glove boxes: one a traditional, large-capacity glove box and the other a new, covered 3.4-liter capacity storage compartment above it.

Silverado HD LT models have a 6.2-liter armrest storage console and 9.1-liter lockable underseat storage bin (with accessory power outlet) built into a new 40/20/40-split bench seat. Chevy Silverado heavy-duty models include a stadium-style rear seat with 60/40-split design and folding center armrest that can easily be folded up for a larger load floor. On the LTZ models, more luxury touches and rich features are prominent, including a large-capacity center console; specific door panels, seats and trim; distinctive instrument panel design; power-adjustable heated bucket seats; leather seats; leather-covered steering wheel; and chrome trim.

Options on 2009 Silverado HD models include a trailer brake controller that is integrated with the anti-lock brake system (ABS); remote vehicle start; heated windshield washer fluid system; Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist; rear-seat entertainment system; several radio systems; touch-screen DVD-based navigation radio; EZ-lift tailgate package; trailering mirrors; front recovery hooks; skid plate package; cargo management system; heavy-duty trailering package; and Z71 Off-Road suspension.

Standard for the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD is a 6.0-liter V-8 gas engine producing 360 hp at 5400 rpm and 380 lb.-ft. of torque at 4200 rpm. Optional in both 2500HD and 3500HD models is a Duramax 6.6-liter, turbo-diesel V-8 engine that pumps out 365 hp at 3200 rpm and 660 lb.-ft. of torque at 1600 rpm. The Duramax engine is factory-enabled to run on B20 biodiesel fuel (for fleet only). A Hydra-Matic 6L90 6-speed automatic transmission comes standard with the 6.0-liter V-8 engine, while a heavy-duty Allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission is standard with the Duramax diesel engine. EPA fuel-economy estimates are not available for the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD since current fuel-economy regulations do not apply to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) higher than 8500 pounds.

The Silverado 2500HD/3500HD have two suspension packages: Z85 (standard on 2WD and 4WD models), and optional Z71 Off Road suspension, which includes additional suspension and chassis equipment and skid plates. Standard on all models is a high-capacity, 4-wheel disc brake system with Hydroboost and 4-wheel ABS. This heavy-duty brake system has large-diameter front and rear disc rotors and stiff brake calipers. An integrated trailer brake controller is standard with all heavy-duty Silverado trucks, integrated with the ABS, eliminating the need for aftermarket and/or external brake control systems, according to Chevrolet. The 2500HD with single rear wheels has a standard vehicle stability enhancement system.

The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD includes standard dual front air bags; safety belt pre-tensioners with both front and rear crash sensing (a segment first, according to Chevy); high-capacity 4-wheel disc brake system with 4-channel ABS; driver information center; tire-pressure monitor; power-adjustable pedals; and OnStar 8.0, including one year of the Safe & Sound plan. OnStar service includes the GM Advanced Crash Response system, which notifies emergency personnel in the event of a severe crash. Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist and factory-installed remote vehicle start are also available.

The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD models have not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for crash or rollover protection.

Standard or available technology features on 2009 Silverado HD models include Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist and a number of radio systems, including: single-CD, 6-disc CD/MP3/DVD-capable systems, radios featuring Radio Data System (RDS) technology, two touch-screen DVD-based navigation radio systems, and a rear-seat entertainment system (available on crew cab models) that combines a dual-play radio system, rear-seat audio controls and a large, 8-inch flip-down screen. A new, optional rearview camera system, available on extended and crew cab models, provides drivers with a remote view directly behind the truck via a display placed in the inside rearview mirror. All models feature standard XM satellite radio with available new NavTraffic feature (with navigation system). OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation and new Destination Download is available. Bluetooth connectivity, available with OnStar 8.0, allows hands-free calling.
