Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a full-size pickup truck, and is offered in three different cabs (Regular, Extended, and Crew) and three beds (short, standard, and long). There are 2- and 4-door body styles.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers seating for up to 6 passengers. Base models feature vinyl upholstery and bare-bone interiors with air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, and a basic audio package. Upgraded models are fitted with cloth or leather upholstery, full power accessories, cruise control, and infotainment systems.
Optional FeaturesOptions on the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 include the Z71 Off-Road package, upgraded 18- or 19-inch wheels, sunroof, power-sliding rear window, navigation, and more.
Under the HoodChevrolet Silverado 1500 standard-duty models are fitted with four different engines. Base models feature a 4.3-liter V-6 engine rated at 195 horsepower. Optional engines include a 4.8-liter V-8 rated at 302 horsepower and a 5.3-liter V-8 rated at 315 horsepower. A 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 403 horsepower is also available. There is also a hybrid, with a 6.0-liter V-8 engine rated at 332 horsepower with two 60-kW electric motors. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with 4-wheel drive optional.

- Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD with 4.8-liter V-8 engine: 14/19/16 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD with 5.3-liter V-8 engine: 15/21/17 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD with 6.2-liter V-8 engine: 13/18/14 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid 2WD with hybrid-electric 6.0-liter V-8 gasoline engine: 20/23/21 mpg (city/highway/combined)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 include front and side curtain air bags. In government crash tests, the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab received an overall rating of 5 (out of 5) stars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Silverado 1500 received a "Good" rating-the Institute's highest-for frontal-offset crash protection.
