The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a traditional full-size pickup truck, sharing platforms with other full-size Chevrolet trucks including the Suburban and Tahoe, as well as its siblings from GMC (Sierra 1500, Yukon XL and Yukon). Chevrolet first began making pickup trucks in 1930, but the "Silverado" nameplate wasn't introduced until 1998 when the company ended production of the Chevrolet C/K platform. The current platform was introduced in 2007. Standard light-duty models wear 1500-series badging, while heavy-duty models are designated 2500HD and 3500HD. Like all full-size pickup trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered with a variety of build configurations. The Silverado Hybrid returns for 2011, featuring a 6.0-liter V-8 engine as part of its 2-mode hybrid powertrain. Other changes for 2011 include new exterior colors, changes to reduce noise inside the cabin, and the latest update to OnStar telematics.

Like other full-size American pickup trucks, the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is available in three cab styles (regular, extended, and crew) and with three cargo box lengths (short, standard, and long). The pickup is available in four trim levels: Work Truck, LS (crew cab only), LT, and LTZ. Base Work Trucks arrive with air conditioning, vinyl upholstery, and not much else. No worries, as consumers may choose from a selection of upgraded trim levels that offer everything from leather upholstery to alloy wheels and high-grade audio systems.

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered with gasoline and hybrid powertrains. The standard engine is a 4.3-liter V-6 rated at 195 horsepower. Optional engines include a 4.8-liter V-8 engine rated at 302 horsepower and a 5.3-liter V-8 rated at 315 horsepower. The largest of the gasoline-powered engines is a 6.2-liter V-8 delivering 403 horsepower. Transmissions are 4- or 6-speed automatics, depending on engine. The optional hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain uses a gasoline-fed 6.0-liter V-8 engine rated at 332 horsepower and two 60-kW electric motors. Combined system power is 379 horsepower. The motors are tied to a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery that supplies power. The gearbox is a 2-mode continuous electric ratio hybrid transmission with 4 fixed gears. The hybrid powertrain allows the Silverado to run on either electric or gasoline power. All 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500s are available in rear- or 4-wheel drive (2WD or 4WD). According to the maker, the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is capable of towing 10,700 pounds, when properly equipped. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 between 14 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, depending on chassis, engine and transmission.

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck 2WD starts at a base price of around $21,200, and the model range tops out with the Silverado 1500 LTZ Crew Cab 4WD, which starts at around $42,000.
