Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Malibu is a midsize sedan, and is offered in three different trim levels. All Malibu models share the same 4-door sedan body style. Seventeen-inch steel wheels are standard.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Malibu offers seating for up to 5 passengers. Base Malibu models feature cloth upholstery, air conditioning, automatic headlights, keyless entry, and full power accessories. Upgraded trim levels are fitted with such features as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote vehicle start, heated front seats, leather upholstery, and automatic climate control.
Optional FeaturesMajor option packages allow owners to add such features as an upgraded Bose audio system, sunroof, and leather upholstery to lower trim levels. Also, 18-inch alloy wheels are available on higher trims.
Under the HoodChevrolet Malibu models are fitted with two different engines. Base Malibu models feature a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 169 horsepower. The optional engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 rated at 252 horsepower. The standard transmission is a 6-speed automatic. All 2012 Chevrolet Malibu models are front-wheel drive.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu are:
- Chevrolet Malibu with 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission: 22/33 mpg (city/highway)
- Chevrolet Malibu with 3.6-liter V-6 engine and automatic transmission: 17/26 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu include side curtain air bags and knee air bags. In government crash tests, the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2012 Malibu has not been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
