Overview

The Chevrolet Malibu is a midsize vehicle that was first launched in 1964. However, that rear-wheel drive model was very different from the front-wheel drive sedan that sits in showrooms today. The 2011 model, which is now in its seventh-generation, is due for replacement next year. As a result, Chevrolet only made minor changes this year, including new wheel designs and a new transmission.

The Malibu is sold in four trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ. Standard equipment on the LS model includes cloth upholstery, air conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, 17-inch steel wheels, and more. The 1LT is upgraded with 17-inch alloy wheels, power-adjustable mirrors, and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. The 2LT models feature six-way power driver's seat, Bluetooth phone connectivity, heated front seats, chrome wheels, and more. The range-topping LTZ comes with leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, Bose premium sound, and unique cosmetic upgrades.

The Chevrolet Malibu is offered with two different engines. The standard powerplant is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is rated at 169 horsepower. The optional engine, which is only offered on LT and LTZ trim levels, is a 3.6-liter, six-cylinder engine that generates 252 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. All Malibu models are front-wheel drive. The EPA rates the fuel economy of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu between 17 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, depending on powertrain.

The 2011 Chevrolet Malibu LS starts with a base price of about $22,500 and tops out with the Malibu LTZ, which starts around $27,500.
