Overview
The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu-the sixth generation of the make-returns to a styling reminiscent of the first-generation 1964 models. This year, the car is all-new inside and out, with the exterior prominently featuring the dual-port grille design that Chevy said represents the face of the new Chevrolet. Malibu also gets a sheer bodyside that's free of unnecessary trim. The interior showcases a twin-cockpit design, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, available two-tone leather interior trim combinations, and a host of other changes. OnStar and traction control are standard, and an electronic stability control system with panic brake assistance is optional.

Model Lineup
Based on the same GM Epsilon platform as the Saturn Aura and Pontiac G6, the midsize 2008 Chevrolet Malibu is 6 inches longer than the 2007 model and, at 112 inches, is the longest Malibu ever and the same size as the 2008 Chevrolet Impala. Malibu is available in five models: LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ and Hybrid. Standard equipment includes remote keyless entry; Ecotec 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder DOHC engine with VVT; AM/FM stereo with CD player, MP3-capable playback, auxiliary audio input jack and 6 speakers; custom cloth front bucket seats with reclining seatbacks; power driver's seat with vertical height adjuster; Driver Information Center with oil life monitor; anti-lock brakes (ABS); dual front air bags; head curtain side air bags; OnStar for one year, and XM satellite radio (three months free). GM's 100,000-mile, 5-year transferable limited powertrain warranty that includes courtesy transportation and roadside assistance is also standard. The Malibu Hybrid's advanced nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery pack is covered by an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty.

Powertrain

The Malibu Hybrid is also powered by the Ecotec 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine with VVT, coupeed with a special hybrid propulsion electric system with 36-watt NiMH battery. It generates 164 hp at 6400 rpm and 159 lb.-ft. of torque at 5000 rpm. The 6-speed transmissions also feature TAPshift, which enables the driver to shift manually with steering wheel-mounted shift controls.
