Optional Features
In addition to a range of audio systems, some of which include a USB port and satellite radio, the 2013 Express Cargo can be equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, cloth seats, 6-way power driver seat, power windows, remote keyless entry, remote vehicle starting, heated power exterior mirrors with turn signal repeater lights, exterior temperature display, compass, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with satellite audio controls.

For 2013, the Express Cargo can be equipped with a new navigation radio, rear park-assist sensors, and a reversing camera. Additional upgrades include a self-explanatory Chrome Appearance package, larger 17-inch steel wheels, rear auxiliary heater, rear air conditioning, and an Enhanced Interior Lighting package with access panel lighting and rear cargo lighting. A locking rear differential is offered as an option, and Express Cargo buyers can add a sliding right-side cargo door and swing-out 60/40-split left-side cargo doors.

Under the Hood

The 2013 Chevrolet Express 1500 Cargo is equipped with a standard 4.3-liter V-6 engine generating 195 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5.3-liter V-8 is optional, which provides 310 horsepower and 334 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. An E85 flex-fuel version of the 5.3-liter V-8 engine is optional, and Chevrolet offers an optional all-wheel-drive system with this engine.

The Express 2500 Cargo and Express 3500 Cargo heavy-duty models are equipped with a standard 4.8-liter V-8 engine generating 280 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission is also standard.

The heavy-duty versions of the Express Cargo can be optioned with a 6.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers 324 horsepower and 373 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is included with this engine, as well as a fast-idle feature to run accessories on a work site. Chevrolet offers an optional compressed natural gas version of this engine.

A 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 with B20 bio-fuel capability is also optional on the Express 2500 Cargo and Express 3500 Cargo models, and is bolted to a heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission. The Duramax turbo-diesel generates 260 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft. of torque, and Chevrolet says this engine is designed to go 200,000 miles in a rough-duty cycle without an overhaul.

Chevy also calls this engine "the cleanest Duramax engine ever produced." A second-generation diesel particulate filter and a large-capacity Selective Catalyst Reduction after-treatment system employing urea-based Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) help the automaker to make this claim. The DEF must be replenished after 5,000 miles of travel.

For cold-weather climates, microprocessor-controlled glow plugs get the Duramax diesel started in 3 seconds or less at temperatures as cold as -20 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Chevrolet. Models with this engine also have a fuel-operated heater system to heat the cabin quickly in low temperatures.

Properly equipped, a 2013 Chevrolet Express Cargo van will tow up to 10,000 pounds. The 1500-series van offers a maximum 7,300-pound Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). The 2500-series van is rated at 8,600-pounds GVWR, while the 3500-series van is rated at 9,600-pounds GVWR with the 6.0-liter V-8 and 9,900-pounds GVWR with the Duramax diesel.
