Exterior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Equinox is a midsize crossover, and is offered in three different trim levels. All Equinox models share the same 4-door sedan body style. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels are standard.
Interior FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Equinox offers seating for up to 5 passengers. Base Equinox models feature cloth upholstery, air conditioning, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and full power accessories. Upgraded trim levels are fitted with such features as automatic climate control, remote start, heated front seats, and a rearview camera.
Optional FeaturesThe 2012 Chevrolet Equinox offers option packages that add such features as 19-inch chrome-clad alloy wheels, navigation system, and a new lane-departure warning and collision alert system to lower trim levels.
Under the HoodChevrolet Equinox models are fitted with two different engines. Base Equinox models feature a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 182 horsepower. The optional engine is a 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 264 horsepower. The standard transmission is a 6-speed automatic. Chevrolet Equinox models are offered with both front- and all-wheel-drive powertrains.
Fuel EconomyEPA fuel-economy figures for the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox are:
- Chevrolet Equinox with 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission: 20/29 mpg (city/highway)
- Chevrolet Equinox with 3.0-liter V-6 engine and automatic transmission: 16/23 mpg (city/highway)
SafetyStandard safety features of note on the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox include side curtain air bags and the General Motors OnStar system. In government crash tests, the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Chevrolet Equinox received a "Good" rating-the Institute's highest-for frontal-offset and side-impact crash protection. Roof strength results from the Institute were also "Good."
