What's New for 2015:

  • Redesigned midsize pickup truck
  • Extended cab and crew cab body styles
  • 4-cylinder or V-6 engine
  • Manual or automatic transmission
  • Optional 4WD
  • Base, WT, LT, and Z71 trim levels

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is a delayed replacement for the company's previous small truck, which went out of production after the 2012 model year. The new Colorado is bigger, now a midsize pickup, and offered in extended cab and crew cab styles with rear-wheel (2WD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD).

Models and Features
The new Colorado is offered in Base, WT, LT, and Z71 trim levels. Standard equipment highlights include a reversing camera, rear corner-step bumpers, Duralife brake rotors, locking tailgate, theft-deterrent system, air conditioning, 6-speaker stereo with USB port, and power windows and side mirrors.

Choose the Colorado WT for a V-6 engine, or if you want the larger crew cab body style. The WT extended cab adds dual rear seats with underseat storage, while the WT crew cab is equipped with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Colorado LT features a standard automatic transmission plus aluminum wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar mobile services with a free 6-month subscription, 4G LTE high-speed Internet connection for mobile Wi-Fi capability, multiple USB ports, and a Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with an 8-in. color touch-screen display and satellite radio. Additional upgrades include nicer trim inside and out, cruise control, remote keyless entry, and a driver's side blind-spot mirror.

Choose the Colorado Z71 for an off-road suspension package, automatic-locking rear differential, front recovery hooks, hill-descent control system, and unique aluminum wheels. When equipped with 4WD, the Colorado Z71 also includes a transfer case skid plate. Additional highlights include fog lights, upgraded headlights, an EZ Lift & Lower tailgate, remote engine starting, rear window defroster, and a single-zone automatic climate control system.

Under the Hood
The Colorado's 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine generates 200 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 191 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. Choose the 3.6-liter V-6 engine for 305 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 269 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,300 rpm.

Both engines are available with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission with a tow/haul mode, but 4WD is available only with the V-6 engine. The maximum tow rating for a Colorado with the V-6 engine is 7,000 lbs., when properly equipped, and Chevrolet says it can haul more than 1,600 lbs. of payload.

Next year, Chevy is planning to introduce a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine to the lineup. It, like all Colorados, will include free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of ownership.

Fuel Economy
Official EPA fuel-economy estimates for the new Colorado will be finalized shortly before the truck arrives in showrooms, but Chevrolet says that a Colorado with a V-6 engine and 2WD will get 26 mpg on the highway. Technologies contributing to this performance include a deceleration fuel cut-off system and available Active Aero Shutters designed to improve the truck's aerodynamics.

Safety and Technology
Every 2015 Colorado is equipped with a reversing camera, while the LT and Z71 trim levels include a free 6-month subscription to OnStar services. Features include automatic crash response, which summons rescuers to the truck's exact location following a collision. Safety-related options include a forward-collision warning system and a lane-departure warning system.

On the infotainment front, the Colorado LT and Z71 include a Chevrolet MyLink touch-screen display that incorporates Bluetooth connectivity with music-streaming capability, access to Internet radio, and a 4G LTE high-speed Internet connection with a free 3-month or 3-gig data usage subscription to service. MyLink can be upgraded with an available navigation system.
