's subcompact 2008 Cobalt is a carryover model from 2007. While not a lot has changed for 2008, Chevy concentrates on offering more standard equipment and adds the Performance Appearance package for 2LT coupe and sedan. The top-of-the-line Sport model offers the most features, including electronic stability control and a more powerful 2.4-liter high-output engine and sport suspension.Model Lineup
The 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt is available in either coupe or sedan body styles and in LS, 1LT, 2LT and Sport models. The front-wheel drive (FWD) Cobalt comes with standard 5-speed manual transmission or optional 4-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment on the LS includes a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine; driver information center; CD/MP3 player; three free months of XM satellite radio; premium ride suspension; anti-lock brake system (ABS); touring tires; and 15-inch steel wheels with bolt-on covers. The 1LT model adds power windows, remote keyless entry and a center console with armrest. The 2LT model tacks on cruise control; body-color, bodyside moldings; 16-inch fascia-spoke silver painted wheels; and one year OnStar Safe & Sound plan. The range-topping Sport model includes a 2.4-liter high output engine; electronic stability control system; tuned sport suspension; 17-inch polished aluminum wheels; and sport tires.
Cobalt options include a body-color rear decklid spoiler and all-speed traction control (LS, 1LT & 2LT coupe/sedan); body-color, bodyside moldings (LS, 1LT coupe/sedan); carpeted front and rear floormats and body-color, bodyside moldings (LS coupe/sedan); cruise control (1LT coupe/sedan); and foglamps on the 2LT coupe/sedan. The optional Performance Appearance package is exclusive to the 2LT coupe/sedan and includes rear decklid spoiler; specially designed front fascia with halogen foglamps;16-inch, machined-face aluminum wheels; touring tires; chrome exhaust tip; leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio and cruise controls; leather-wrapped steering wheel; and white-faced Sport gauges.
Other options include a remote vehicle starter system with remote keyless entry (1LT, 2LT & Sport coupe/sedan, with automatic transmission only); sunroof (2LT & Sport coupe/sedan); in-dash, 6-disc CD changer/MP3 player (1LT, 2LT & Sport coupe/sedan); and 7-speaker premium Pioneer sound system (2LT coupe/sedan). Front leather bucket seats are available on 2LT & Sport coupe/sedan, while perforated inserts are also available on Sport coupe/sedan.Powertrain
The 2.2-liter Ecotec dual overhead cam (DOHC), 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine is standard on 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt LS and LT models and produces 148 hp at 5600 rpm and 152 lb.-ft. of torque at 4200 rpm. Power is transferred through the standard 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic transmission. The Sport model has the 2.4-liter high-output DOHC 4-cylinder engine delivering 171 hp at 5800 rpm and 167 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, while a 4-speed automatic transmission is optional. 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt safety features include dual front air bags; optional front and rear head curtain air bags; front seat belt pre-tensioners; child seat anchors; emergency interior trunk release; daytime running lights; dusk-sensing headlamps; and standard ABS. All-speed traction control is optional on LS and LT, while an electronic stability control system is standard on the Sport model. ), the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt 4-door sedan and 2-door coupe receive a 4-star driver and 5-star passenger frontal crash test rating. In NHTSA side-impact crash testing, the sedan receives a 3-star rating for driver and 5 stars for rear-seat occupant protection, while the coupe receives a 4-star rating for both driver and rear seat. Standard equipment on the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt includes an AM/FM, in-dash, single-CD player with CD/MP3 playback and 4 speakers. Mast antenna, and adjustable speed-sensitive volume, auxiliary MP3 audio input jack, radio data system and three free months of XM satellite radio add to the entertainment capabilities. Buyers of the 2008 Cobalt can take their digital music with them with the optional in-dash, 6-disc CD changer/MP3 player with auxiliary audio input jack for iPod, available on LT and Sport. A 7-speaker Pioneer premium sound system is standard on Sport and optional on LT models and includes a 228-watt, 6-channel high efficiency power amplifier, door-mounted tweeters, rear shelf-mounted woofers and trunk-mounted, 10-inch subwoofer.
