Overview

The Chevrolet Avalanche is a pickup truck with a one-piece body, so that it's effectively a crew cab SUV. It's similar to the Chevrolet Suburban, save that the cab is separated from the cargo bed by a midgate with a foldable wall and removable rear window. The cargo bed can be left open like a pickup, or enclosed like an SUV. The 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche is little changed from 2010.

The base model of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche features 17-inch wheels, some power accessories, air conditioning, front bucket seats, Bluetooth connectivity, and a basic sound system. The Avalanche LT trim adds rear parking assist, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote ignition, premium sound system, and more power accessories. The Avalanche LTZ trim level features 20-inch wheels, navigation system, adaptive suspension, heated and ventilated leather seats, and other upgrades. The Z71 Off Road package of options includes 18-inch off-road tires, specialized springs and shocks, front recovery hooks, skid plate, and different exterior styling. Available stand-alone options include power running boards, rear-seat entertainment system, and a heavy-duty trailer package. The Avalanche seats up to 6 passengers. Its cargo bed is 5.3 feet long, extending to 8.2 feet with the midgate lowered.

The 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche's standard power plant is a 320-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 engine that produces 335 lb.-ft. of torque and delivers 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The Avalanche is available with 2- or 4-wheel drive (2WD or 4WD) and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Properly equipped, the 2WD model can tow just over 8000 pounds, according to Chevrolet.
