Last redesigned in 2007, Chevy bills the Avalanche as "the industry's most flexible utility vehicle" due to its unique midgate, combining 6-passenger comfort and attributes of an SUV with a truck's cargo capabilities. A pair of new exterior colors is offered in 2010, while all of Avalanche's radios receive a standard USB port. Revisions have been made to the 1LT package and a single-speed transfer case is now standard on 4WD models (a 2-speed transfer case is optional).

The Chevrolet Avalanche is a pickup truck that can be configured into a crew-cab SUV. It's somewhat similar to the Chevrolet Suburban, except that the cab is separated from the cargo bed by a midgate with a foldable wall and a removable rear window. The cargo bed can be left open like a pickup or enclosed like an SUV. The 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche is little changed from 2009, although the 6-liter V8 engine is no longer offered as an option.

The base model Avalanche has a full range of power accessories, including air conditioning, a split bench front seat with center storage, and a basic sound system. The LT trim adds Bluetooth capability, dual-zone automatic climate control, front bucket seats, a premium sound system, and more power accessories. The LTZ trim level features 20-in. wheels, navigation system, adaptive suspension, heated and ventilated leather seats, and other upgrades. The Z71 Off Road package includes 18-in. off-road tires, specialized springs and shocks, front recovery hooks, a skid plate, and different exterior styling. Available stand-alone options include power running boards, rear-seat entertainment system, and a heavy-duty trailer package. The Avalanche seats up to six passengers. The cargo bed is 5.3 feet long and can extending to 8.2 feet with the midgate lowered.

The 2010 Avalanche is powered by a 320-hp 5.3-liter V8 engine with two- or four-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. Properly equipped, the two-wheel-drive model can tow slightly more than four tons. The EPA estimates that the two-wheel-drive Avalanche will deliver 15 mpg in the city, 21 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined.
