Overview
The Cadillac STS carries over for 2010 without significant change. Two new color choices are added for 2010 and the ultra-luxury STS Platinum Edition-loaded with premium features-returns. Of note, Cadillac introduced a possible replacement for the STS-the XTS Platinum Concept-at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
- Two new exterior colors: Vanilla Latte and Tuscan Bronze ChromaFlair
The 2010 Cadillac STS is positioned between the CTS and the DTS models: a little more conservative than the CTS and sportier than the DTS. This large luxury sedan handles like a smaller car, the automaker says, and comes with either a V6 or a V8 engine.
The base V6 Luxury Sport model has the standard amenities found on most 2010 Cadillac models. The V6 Luxury trim adds upgraded front and rear seats and steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, and Bluetooth connectivity. The V6 Premium has 18-in. wheels, a limited slip differential, upgraded braking, steering, and cooling, as well as a host of power features. With the V8 engine, the STS is available in Luxury or Premium trim. The Premium trim with the V8 engine includes adaptive suspension, sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and additional safety features. Other, more elaborate option packages are also available. A popular choice is the two-mode Magnetic Ride Control suspension. The Touring mode offers a smoother ride, while the Sport mode sharpens handling.
The 2010 STS employs a 302-hp 3.6-liter V6 as its standard engine. Optional is a 320-hp 4.6-liter V8. Both come with a six-speed automatic transmission and a choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The V6 offers 17 mpg in the city, 26 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined. The V8 delivers 15 mpg in the city, 24 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined, according to the automaker.
In NHTSA tests, the 2010 Cadillac STS received four stars for frontal impact safety, and for side-impacts, the STS received four stars for front passengers and five stars for rear passengers. The IIHS gave the STS a "Good" rating for frontal-offset impacts, and "Acceptable" for side impacts.
Base MSRP for the 2010 STS ranges from $46,845 to $70,335.
