Overview
Cadillac's Escalade full-size SUV, all-new for 2007, gets an attention-getting boost in 2008 with the addition of the Escalade Platinum limited-edition model. Besides Escalade, the Cadillac Platinum series includes the DTS, STS and XLR models. The automaker adds new Magnetic Ride Control technology and LED headlamps to the Escalade Platinum (both first-ever in an SUV, according to GM), and new exterior and interior styling. Cadillac hopes that with its handcrafted details and advanced technology, the 2008 Escalade and Escalade Platinum will propel the brand to the consideration list of an even greater number of luxury SUV buyers.

Model Lineup
For 2008, Cadillac offers the Escalade and new Escalade Platinum limited-edition model-both available in 2-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive (2WD or AWD) configurations. Standard equipment includes tri-zone automatic climate control; stability control; side curtain air bags; power liftgate; and power running boards. Options include 22-inch chrome wheels, a rearview camera, and remote starting.

The special-edition Escalade Platinum, scheduled for a spring 2008 debut, features Magnetic Ride Control and LED headlamps. The Platinum model also sports distinctive front fascia and grille (inspired by the CTS sport); 22-inch wheels unique to the Escalade Platinum; hand-stitched leather and wood overlays in the interior; Aniline leather seats; heated steering wheel; heated and cooled cupholders; two DVD monitors integrated into the front-seat headrests; and Bose 5.1 Digital Surround audio system and 8-inch DVD navigation touch screen.

Powertrain
Powering the 2008 Cadillac Escalade models is the Gen IV, 6.2-liter, all-aluminum, Vortec V-8 engine, which delivers 403 hp at 5700 rpm and 417 lb.-ft. of torque at 4300 rpm; VVT boosts horsepower and torque through optimized camshaft timing, Cadillac says. A heavy-duty, 6-speed automatic transmission with two overdrive gears and tap up/tap down manual shift mode transfers the power to the wheels. EPA fuel economy estimates for the 2WD 2008 Escalade are 12 mpg city/19 mpg highway, with 12 mpg city/18 mpg highway ratings for the AWD model. Standard on every 2008 Cadillac is a 5-year/100,000-mile transferable powertrain limited warranty with no deductible, 24/7 roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.

Safety
Cadillac Escalade receives perfect 5-star ratings for all occupants in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) frontal- and side-impact crash tests. In NHTSA rollover testing, both Escalade 2WD and AWD receive a 3-star rating. Escalade's numerous safety systems and crash-avoidance technologies include 4-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system; electronic stability control with rollover mitigation; all-speed traction control; dual-stage driver and front-passenger, front-impact air bags; automatic occupant-sensing system; and head curtain side air bags with rollover protection for front, second and third rows. In addition, during a severe frontal impact, when the second-stage frontal air bags deploy, the head curtain side air bags will also deploy, Cadillac says.

Technology
The 2008 Cadillac Escalade includes two DVD monitors in the Platinum model, and adds a fully featured touch-screen DVD-based navigation radio with premium Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround sound system. The rear-seat entertainment system has a roof-mounted, 8-inch diagonal screen, two 2-channel wireless headphones, auxiliary audio/video jacks and remote game plug-in. Three months of XM satellite radio are also included.
