Exterior Features
The 2013 Cadillac Escalade is available in regular- and extended-length SUV (ESV) models, and as a pickup truck version called the EXT. Also available is an Escalade Hybrid variant.

The Escalade ESV adds 21 inches of length to the standard model, while the Escalade EXT is equipped with a Mid-Gate that opens the cabin to the 5-foot cargo bed and, when the rear seat is folded down, it is possible to carry items up to 8 feet long.

Interior Features
The Escalade is sold in base, Luxury, Premium, and Platinum trim levels. Standard equipment includes leather seats, 14-way power heated and ventilated front seats, second-row bucket seats (on SUV models), automatic climate control, touch-screen navigation system, Bose 5.1 surround-sound audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, power liftgate (on SUV models), power-adjustable pedals, and remote engine starting.

Optional Features
Upgrades to the Luxury trim include Intellibeam headlights, power sunroof, heated steering wheel, power second-row seat release, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, and 22-inch aluminum wheels.

The Escalade Premium adds power-retractable side assist steps and a rear-seat entertainment system. Premium trim also represents the level of features and equipment found on the Escalade Hybrid.

The Platinum trim includes premium leather upholstery, extended leather treatment, real wood trim, heated steering wheel, and heated and cooled cupholders. The Platinum trim also features LED headlights.

A 3-passenger, second-row bench seat is optional on any of the Escalade SUV models.

Under the Hood
A 403-horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8 engine with cylinder-deactivation technology is standard for all trims except the Escalade Hybrid. A 6-speed automatic transmission delivers power to the rear wheels (2WD) on SUV models. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on the Escalade EXT and optional for SUVs.

Hybrids get a 6.0-liter V-8 engine with cylinder deactivation, paired with electric assist motors and a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery. Automatic stop/start technology is standard, and this version can operate on electricity alone at low speeds, according to Cadillac. Power output measures 332 horsepower, and the Escalade Hybrid can tow up to 5,800 pounds.

Fuel Economy
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Cadillac Escalade are:
  • Escalade 2WD: 14/18/16 mpg (city/highway/combined)
  • Escalade AWD: 13/18/15 mpg
  • Escalade ESV/EXT AWD: 13/18/14 mpg
  • Escalade Hybrid 2WD/AWD: 20/23/21 mpg

Also standard is one year of free OnStar service with automatic collision notification. The Luxury trim adds a side blind-zone alert system.

In government crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Escalade SUV models earned a 4- (out of 5) star overall rating, with a 3-star rollover rating applied to both 2WD and AWD versions.
