Overview

As in previous years, there are three Escalade models to choose from: standard-length Escalade, extended-length Escalade ESV, and the Escalade EXT sport-utility truck. Cadillac also offers the Escalade Hybrid and Escalade Platinum Hybrid, both of which offer a 50-percent fuel-economy improvement in city driving over non-hybrid models. For 2010, the Escalade's 6.2-liter V-8 engine is equipped with fuel-saving Active Fuel Management technology. Other changes include side thorax air bags added to the front outboard seats and a revised inner door design for enhanced side-impact protection.

  • 6.2-liter engine now equipped with Active Fuel Management technology, which helps increase fuel efficiency by shutting off half of the engine's cylinders in certain driving conditions
  • New exterior color: Silver Lining replaces Quick Silver and Blue Chip
  • Locking steering column
  • Previous Platinum-model clock standard in all models
  • USB connection in center console enables stored audio files to play through the audio system and battery charging for some handheld devices
  • Side thorax air bags added to front outboard seats
  • Revised inner door design for enhanced side-impact protection
  • Battery-saver mode shuts off power when battery gets low due to extended accessory use
  • Revised parking brake release
  • Escalade Hybrid gets new 3.08 axle ratio
  • Escalade Hybrid's 6.0-liter V-8 engine now E85 flex-fuel capable
The Escalade EXT made its dbut in 2002. The 2010 Cadillac Escalade EXT is a pickup truck, with an eight-foot bed that can easily be enclosed and converted to a five-passenger luxury SUV. Mechanically, the EXT is similar to the Chevrolet Avalanche, and carries over from the previous model year with only a few differences. For 2010, the EXT recieves Active Fuel Management, a system that allows the engine to shut down up to four of its eight cylinders when maximum power is not required. Cadillac also adds two trim levels: Luxury and Premium.

Standard equipment on the base level includes 18-in. wheels, adaptive suspension, xenon headlights, rear parking assist with rearview camera, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated power-adjustable front seats, and other power features. Also standard are a Bose sound system, Bluetooth capability, navigation system, and rear-view camera. The Luxury trim adds 22-in. wheels, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, and sunroof. To that, the Premium trim adds power-retracting side steps and a rear-seat entertainment system. Some of the Luxury and Premium features are available as stand-alone options on the base model. The Platinum level includes all the features in the Luxury and Premium trim levels, plus heated and cooled cupholders, a dual-screen entertainment system, and LED headlights.

A 6.2-liter 403-hp V8 engine powers the 2010 EXT. It generates 417 lb.-ft. of torque and is coupeed with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. The 2009 model delivered 12 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 14 mpg combined, according to EPA estimates. Those numbers will probably increase slightly due to the new fuel management system.

The 2010 EXT features a full complement of standard safety features, and receives five stars in frontal- and side-impact tests from NHTSA.

Base MSRP for the 2010 Cadillac Escalade EXT started at $61,420.
